"Dragon Ball Kai" Saiyan Story Arc (#1-16) Talkback (Spoilers)

I just watched episode 1.

I never thought that 20-year-old footage could look so good. Granted, it would be infinitely better if they completely re-animated, but that would obviously cost too much. But if Toei were to ever do, I'm willing to wait another 20 years.

Masako Nozawa, as a 72-year-old actress you can still voice our protagonist and every male in his family minus his brother perfectly. You really are the Eternal Boy. Oh yeah, and everyone else was great, too.

The (for lack of a better word) abridging of the series really made the pacing so much better, and I'll appreciate it much more when it removes filler and speeRAB up multiple-episode planet destroying.

And, of course, the opening and ending (and eyecatchers). Absolutely gorgeous, and such catchy music.

I should stop buying Dragon Ball Z and wait for this, but I only have one season left. Well, I probably won't sell them until this comes out, but... anyone wanna buy Dragon Ball Z Season One through Eight (and probably Nine soon)?

So those are my thoughts on episode 1. I can't wait for episode 2!

Other fillers were Gohan's adventues before Nappa and Vegeta's arrival, Goku falling off Snake Way and landing in Hell, Princess Snake, the Pendulum Room, the artificial moon, Gregory the cricket is a filler character, Kaio (King Kai) telling Goku about the history of the Saiyans, the Kame House scenes during the Saiyans battle. I could go on.

Here's the eyecatchers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6CEA0qgmpc&fmt=22

Bloody impressive, really. And the opening...goodness, it makes a man wanna cry.

Well, if the pacing continues to work well--as it has the past two or three episodes--I can see something working out around the one hundred episode mark.

These are some dangerous assumptions here. In filler, it's an animator's job to creatively interpret it. After spending days working on animating even just one scene, why wouldn't the staff care if their work was good? Regardless of payment, they can do some new things in filler. It may be filler, but it's still their job.

I'm betting it'll be more than 100 episodes, that was never confirmed.

I also get the feeling some filler stories will be left in. I bet those "manga purists" will be in for a rude awakening, and I can't help but laugh if I'm right.

Ok-Ok...I'm being a little personal, but I'm hoping it will stop at the Freeza saga.

I mean, really; what was the point of Cell & Buu saga have to do with the Dragonballs? I get the Saiyan & Freeza saga, but those two? Even though I love the Cell games and Kid Buu, they really have nothing to do with the Dragonballs. (But sadly, DBGT does. Kind of.)

I'm just saying, not hating.

To be honest, I really dislike the redrawn scenes. The lines are a lot thicker and overall they just look less clean. The only thing I like better are the backgrounRAB and the pacing, to be honest. If Toei had chosen to redraw the entire series with similar animation in the opening, overall, I would have been more pleased.

I have been an anime fan for a while now and strangly enough I have never given DBZ or any Dragon Ball series a chance until last week when I began watching Kai, luckily for me so far I like what I see. I have only seen the first 2 episodes but I plan on catching up really soon and I hope that this series continues to impress me throughout it's run, and I guess this would be the best way to watch DBZ, because from what I hear, they are cutting out a lot of the filler and piecing together the series in a way that makes it easier to watch for both new and old fans. Genius!

HQ screen caps from the opening and ending (you'll have to search the site for the ending screen caps)!!

The DB fandom has really rallied, the past few hours, to get all of this stuff up.

Well, actually Toku Nisho, Mr. Popo's VA died in 2005, and some of those guys were getting old, so it's reasonable as to why they changed their seiyu
