"Dragon Ball Kai" Saiyan Story Arc (#1-16) Talkback (Spoilers)

I knew Chichi's voice sounded odd when I watched Season 4-6 over the last few weeks, but I could not put my finger on it. Actually, I never knew she got a different VA in the middle of Z since I had never seen the Vegeta-Garlic Sagas in Japanese until the Season sets, so I only knew of the one.

That sucks about Gregory getting a new voice, as I met his original VA last year at NDK, and the man was hysterical.

Well I can see how it's kinda lame for the original animators work to be remixed but that's becoming pretty common. I mean sure the staff working on it didn't have to work as hard as the original animators but it's not like they did nothing they had to re-edit and refurbish the footage a lot and that also takes some man power. Furthermore it's not degrading the original work (at least in theory) and the hard work of the original staff is still present. Though I'll bet the original animators would love to get some money from their refurbished work but that's not how the business works unless they got royalties in the first place.

Anyhoo, let's see how well Toei can abridge Dragonball Z.

"Oh, hey, animation staff? Yeah, you know that hard work you put into what fans hate, refuse to appreciate, and generally despise for little reason and call filler? We're just gonna remove all that stuff, clean up the animation of yours we actually like, and then redo everything but the actual drawings to make it more accurate to something written by a Japanese guy twenty years ago!"

You realize we've all already seen Dragonball Kai? It's called THE MANGA. This work pretty much takes the notion of creativity of shonen animation and shoves it down a toilet. God forbid an action series tries its own thing while playing with old continuity. No, we have to have our anime exactly the same as what we've already read!

Sure, other shonen are creatively dry as well, but this actually GOES BACK and removes extra chunks of creativity. That's pathetic and a horrible way to celebrate a show's anniversary. I can't even imagine why anyone would like this.

Really? Did you know the original japanese VA of Gregory also voiced Kaioshin (Supreme Kai)? Apparently the new VA of Gregory also voiced Baby from Dragon Ball GT.

IIRC there was at least one volume cover that had Piccolo and Goku driving little cars (which may have been the inspiration for the episode), but it didn't actually appear in the manga proper.

I could be wrong though.

"Dragon Ball Kai" Saiyan Story Arc (#1-16) Talkback (Spoilers)

I'm thinkin' Kai's episode 4 will end with Z episode 5. Episode 5 will likely cover Z 6-8 and with a mixture of some of the 'Where are they now filler' and Kai

Via Kei17:

It's odd, as I don't think any of those guys are dead...but Numata is the man, so I hope he gets another role as well (if only Baby was in Kai...)
