Downton Abbey - ITV1

I watch ER , Greys Anatomy and lots of medical dramas that if picked on and poked at are not always accurate .
But I dont let it spoil them for me as its not a documentary or no ones real life depenRAB on it
So nothing will spoil my enjoyment of Downton either , certainely not little pickey things.
If Micheal Jackson moonwalked across the lawn maybe , but small little things are simply there and I would go mad if I were to go over it with a fine tooth comb .
I sit back and love it , simply that .
 
I think the poster meant social disgrace rather than literal execution.

Great show, I am really intrigued as to the problem Mr Bates has.

Great watching it on I player, virtually no adverts, but the time passes even more quickly
 
Yes I suspected the footman, because he will do anything not to jeopardise his position and he may have been scared that the Turkish emissary would have spoken out. Also the lord said at the end that the guy wouldn't have been poisoned because nothing gets past the cook but we saw that the cook's eyesight is failing because she couldn't see the flour properly that was on the table. Also a young man like him is unlikely to die of a heart attack unless he has a heart defect but I think the hints that were put in point to the fact he may have been poisoned. Something may come out in future episodes.
 
Actually, what I'm wondering about is what will be the final timescale for the whole series? This started in 1912, and seemed to last a good few months at least (the sisters were in mourning for about 2 mins on screen but said they'd been doing it for at least a month or so).

So, if the timescale for the whole series is something like 3 or 4 years in total - that'll mean that World War I will be happening during the programme as well as possibly the Russian Revolution . This lead to huge upheavel within the social classes and maybe that's what this whole show is about - how the Lord is desperate to save his manor when everything around him in the world is changing.

Strikes me the Duke is the rotter here. He seems to have duped Thomas and used him as an informant to where money might be. Thomas has now been slighted and cast aside. He'll be out for revenge.
 
Watched this last night having recorded it on Sky. I thought it was very enjoyable and basically did what it said on the tin, but I wouldn't have watched it when it was broadcast because of the adverts. I got irritated just fast-forwarding them let alone having to watch them.

I predict a ratings slump next week as I think many people who can't record it will find the adverts intolerable.

See what a bit of period drama does. We all want to turn into Mrs Bridges!!
Mind you, the food they were serving up for the family looked sumptuous.
 
Don't think much of the pig is still a pig analogy. I'll concur what previous posters have said about Joanner Frogatt, having seen her in a number of roles previousl I think she's a talented actress and derogatory comments about her appearance i.e a face for radio are unneccessary and irrelevant to her acting ability in any case.
 
We could pick holes in all tv drama, including soaps, if we wanted to. Take Corrie, for instance - where on earth is there an area where every celebration is held in the local pub, be it wedding, funeral, whatever? And why do people in soaps never watch soaps on tv and talk about them the way people do in real life? And why was Martin Platt always on duty when someone in Corrie went into hospital? Didn't matter what time of day or night or which ward they were headed for - there was Martin, ready to do his nurse of the year stuff. Same with policemen in Emmerdale ...

The drama is the important thing, the bits that are unrealistic just have to be ignored for the most part. I mean, look how clean everyone seems to look in a lot of period drama, even when they've walked miles in filthy weather with their skirts brushing the ground. It's a bit like the babies that get born looking as though they'd been through a car wash on the way out. Best to ignore these things and just enjoy the story.
