Downton Abbey - ITV1

It's interesting how Matthew's mother has changed... she seems to relish winding Lady Dame Maggie up.

I'm surpirised how readily the senior members of staff suggest that housemaiRAB have a lie down if unwell, both Mary and Red haired one (can't remember her name) have been sent to bed.

Wasn't clear...Did Bates and Mary actually find the missing box in Thomas's room?

I absolutely love this series - the best thing I've seen in a long time. I look forward to it all week and the time just whizzes by.

I can't stand Lady Mary - I really want to give her a good slap. She is such a cow and I'm not surprised that Edith has taken matters into her own hanRAB. She's obviously had years of playing second fiddle to Mary with everybody obsessed about who she's going to marry and never gets a look in. I was glad to see from next week's preview that it looks like Sir whatever-he's-called sees sense and decides to focus on Edith instead of flighty Mary.

I just hope that Matthew keeps out of Mary's clutches now he's seen the light and he doesn't fall under her spell again. It would serve her right if Edith were to marry first, although knowing Mary she would say it wouldn't be right for the younger sister to marry before the elder and she would have to wait until she got married herself first, although she has no intention of doing so.

Loving the rivalry between the Dame Maggie Smith and Matthew's mum.

Also love to hate Thomas and O'Brien...what a pair those two are and so glad that Bates and Anna rumbled their plot. The look of panic on their faces as they ran to their rooms when they realised what had happened was priceless.

Wonder what the secret is with Bates' wife...am wondering if she is still alive as surely Lord thingy would have known he was married as they go back a long way and would wonder what had happened to her? Or maybe he's using that as an excuse to try and put Anna off as he thinks he's too old for her. I hope not as I think they make a nice couple.

Can't believe there are only a couple of episodes left before the series finishes :( this is definitely one I will have to buy on DVD when it comes out :)

Plain but she still has the cachet that comes from being Lady Edith whoever she marries. Someone would think it worthwhile to marry her as she is the daughter of a duke.

I once read that everyone is bisexual. (Can't remember where or when I read this but it was about 15 years ago.) Most people, however, don't consider this, because they naturally assume they are heterosexual, because they want to have children.

This latest survey was conducted by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the same government body which conducts the National Census every ten years. It is the first survey of its kind and found that 1 person in 100 considers themselves to be homosexual, and that more men than women consider themselves to be gay.

The show is evidently supposed to be a drama with comic edges, rather than a totally straight or realistic drama; it's clearly stylised, so I think criticising the characters for being larger than life (you haven't, I know) or criticising the melodrama is a bit redundant.

People seem so ready to call something a soap of some sort - what isn't a soap these days? I wouldn't class Downton Abbey as soapy at all. Melodramatic, yes, but melodramatic drama, not soapyness.

I'm not really into this sort of progamme though Mrs BB loves them. Have to say quite enjoyed it when all said & done. Was happy that the bloke with the gammy leg was sent packing in the end, he got quite a rough deal.

I don't think its 'petty' to 'winge' about an accent. The character plays a big part in the show, I could understand if people were complaining about someone who has a couple of lines, but she is in it a lot.....

5 second rule! though not sure it counts if a cat has also had a little chew lol

laughed so much at them running up the stairs in a panic

why would Mary be facing execution?

i do understand why Edith is so put out but i think she is taking it too far without realising the whole family would be damaged if Mary was 'ruined'.

I mentioned in an earlier post that they were probably just meant to be engaging in non-penetrative sexual stuff, as I couldn't imagine Mary allowing anal for her first time. She's quite dominant too and so I don't think she'd be that submissive.
