Downton Abbey - ITV1

If it doesn't turn up, it's repeated on Friday evening.

If you've got, HD Single Father gets an extra showing after midnight!!

So much on Sundays at the moment. House at 10pm too!!

Exactly, there is nothing nice about Edith, she is willing to turn her own sister in on the word of an evil maid and an unintelligent (and highly suggestable) girl.

She overheard the conversation between Mary and her mother, so she should at least have talked to her.

In the trailer for next week Mary seemed to show genuine concern for Sibyll.

I liked the way it debunked that at the point when the butler made a very stereotypical shamefaced mea culpa speech and his old boss told him, "Oh, don't be so melodramatic!"

Excellent starter programme..introduced the characters well and set the scene for future shenanigans..

my prediction.......the unknown third cousin one removed will undoubtedly fall for Lady Mary and together they will produce an heir to Downtown who can inherit her mothers fortune...thereby keeping everyone happy.

Perhaps I wasn't clear about my meaning.

Most if not all of the people who took decisions about the stance of the Daily Mail re WW2 are dead, so it's unfair to judge the present DM for their attitudes.

The present day DM took a stand against an illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq which was not the case with all newspapers, iirc.

I do find it odd that people state that they don't read the Mail and yet purport to know what it contains.

(Btw, if anyone replies to this post, don't expect an answer from me, as I won't be reading this thread again, as I have decided not to watch this programme in future. I don't expect anyone will, I just don't want to appear rude)

Recorded this, whizzed through the aRAB etc and brought a 90 minute show down to about an hour so I appreciate it must have been frustrating for those watching with all the ad breaks.

Enjoyed it. Loved Gosford Park. Unlike other posters I didnt see the Duke/Footman thing coming and liked the twist. And yes had a good school kid like snigger at the "2 swallows dont make a summer" line - as if Julian Fellows didnt know what he was doing when he slipped that dialogue in!

In real life, would someone with Crawley's integrity really fancy a stuck-up person like Mary? Yes, she has a lot of spirit but most of it appears to be of the mean and nasty kind, especially to his face. It also seems a little unfair that he marries one of the girls just to save them the trouble of finding another home.

I really hope he does a Rhett Butler - you know "Frankly my dear, I really don't give a damn!"

I have to say I am quite enjoying this. Fairly interesting historical drama set in a lovely home. Not a lot to dislike - especially when you know that the whole social structure has only about another 2 years to survive in its entirety.
