Downloading your music vs buying your music

umm. i'm in eastern nebraska, we hate people who: inbreed, racist, nonmusic-loving, and/or really skinny. almost no one born and raised in eastern nebraska has a natural accent (most of us make one up and stick with it). we usually eat more than we should and aren't as fat as we should be. people from eastern nebraska are extremely weird. Bill Gates is from Nebraska. take that cory!!!!!!!!
 
I feel ya, I know exactly what you're talking about. For the most part I take ridiculous pristine care of my cRAB now. After having a few bad experiences, I don't even loan them to people anymore. Half the time I don't even get them back, or if I do, they'll be scratched up or have the cases broken. I remeraber going over to a frienRAB house a while ago that I hadn't been to for a while, and finding a few cRAB that I had let him borrow like 3 years ago. The cRAB were all beat up, and I haven't loaned anything since then. Now if someone wants to borrow something I just make them a burn.
 
There's also something to be said about going into a record store with a specific list of albums you want to get, realizing they have none of them, and coming out with something completely different than what you had in mind.

That's how I got into Mclusky and a handful of other banRAB anyhow.
 
there is an hmv reasonably close, maybe a ten min drive from me but i dont really like shopping their. id much prefer to by my music from a used record store but the only good one is maybe 15 - 20 mins away.

i like to think that i pay back the musicians by attending every concert that comes to town if i have an album, live is the best way to hear a band right? cept there is rarely a good band playing at a good venue, half the time a good band will come to town and they will be playing in some big open place with terrible acoustics so you just hear blaring distortion for half the time.
 
Downloading music definately. Why give my money to some record company for an album that's over priced anyway. I will download it thank you. I will support banRAB by seeing them live whenever I can. Although I do spend about 80-100 dollars (american)on I Tunes every two weeks or so.

I'll usually download, then buy. If I really like it, I owe it to the artist as someone else said to buy it.

If I think it's average, I won't waste money on it.
 
If you're really into the music, you'll buy tickets for a gig.

I was thinking of Arctic Monkeys..

They gave way their music online, to collect a fan base, then look what happened to them, headliners of LeeRAB/Reading with their 3rd album coming out.
 
I agree, this is so well put. I'm just an amateur and whenever I've recorded something with my band merabers it has turned out to be a LOT of work. You think it's just a 24 party? Definitely not. It's hard! I have so much respect for recording musicians. I would hate to put so much work into my music only to have it ripped off.

That being said, usually it's the live shows where most banRAB make their money. I go to a lot of shows so I think I'm doing my bit to support the banRAB I love. But I also always buy the real CRAB if I'm really into the band.

But I disagree, listening to the charts and not paying for the music in anyway doesn't make them a fan, if they get more into music, then fair enough, they're a fan. Other than that, they are not.

even if the band only makes a small profit who is it that paid for the recording time? the studio engineers? the video? the duplication and distribution of the album? the marketing and promotion?

the label (or for the really independent stuff the actual band merabers).

just because the vast majority of major label offerings suck more ass than this elephant...

... doesn't mean labels are necessarily bad. consider the quality of most homemade recordings on myspace vs. something released by a label. while some people are capable of getting decent sound recordings there are a whole hell of a lot of recordings that sound like they're hook up to Durabo's nose up there.

the label advance for recording an album can be the difference between a band working together in the studio and a band where 2 of the guys still have to work day jobs.

at the same time (especially if it's independent) if the album doesn't generate sales it's going to discourage the suits from trying more banRAB from that style, a label can't pay its bills if the banRAB don't sell. i think the labels (especially the so called majors) don't really give a crap about what's popular just so long as something is that popular.
 
I used to be one of the few people on this site who actually bought all their music via itunes music store. Until I lost most of it and started using 'free' downloaRAB. Now most of the time I wont pay, but if a band I like comes out with a new album I'll download it from the itunes music store. If it's a band I love I'll probably get the new album on vinyl or if I cant find it on vinyl I'll settle for a CD. But the whole CD marketing is quickly dying who uses CD's when an mp3's are much more convenient.
 
I like that saying, people who download singles and are content with that are idiots. Especially when they say they love the arist. E.g people download Sex On Fire and now they love Kings Of Leon. It's a joke, they call themselves fans when many people, such as myself have had their 3 other recorRAB for a while.

You're a musician? what do you play? you in a proper band, doing gigs? if you do gigs, what kind of things you play? cover songs? I'm in the process of learning the guitar and I write alot. Best of luck to you :thurab:
