Dogs barking problems

Some people on here make me very angry, the person who said they should be PTS for barking neeRAB to engage his/her brain before touching a keyboard.

I suppose a baby crying at night warrants a cull also?

These situations can be overcome with some hard work, training out seperation anxiety is the bread and butter of many behaviourists

Well done for addressing the problem rather than burying your head in the sand or taking the easy route of rehoming or other drastic steps that have been mentioned on this thread by people who basically have no idea

They're walked three times a day, I leave them all day till 4pm but go home at lunch time take them out and check they're okay. Although I don't see how answering this question helps me in anyway!
 
There is a dog up the back that I hear barking without fail every single day.

Usually in the morning, but it seems to be literally any time it's put out the back, it just starts going for it.

I hear it more than I hear my own dog, which IMO means it's unacceptable.

If our dog is out the back and starts barking we bring her in immediately for the sake of the neigrabroadours.
 
I think he was asking if the dogs exercise enough. Different dogs need more or less exercise and not everyone realises just how much theirs need.

Not getting enough exercise can lead to excess energy leading to sometimes unacceptable behaviour because they're basically hyper.
 
I think I've already advised this problem in my younger dog 1year old, has separation anxiety issues, this is not due to lack of exercise or stimulation. She doesn't bark all day but just after I leave the house.
 
I think Dudeness understanRAB it's a problem and she's actually asking for advice on how to tackle it.

Unfortunately it does take a third party to let you know if your dog is barking when you are out. But she's trying to sort it out so telling her it's terrible that the dog barks is stating what she already knows and doesn't really help her.
 
You're just being silly. Audio equipment comes with volume control and on/off switches. Children are significantly different to pets.

Barking dogs are a nuisance and most owners really don't seem to care. Would the OP have come here looking for advice if the council hadn't got involved ? There is a dog in the row behind us, barks most days on and off from about 8am to around 11pm. I'm guessing that coincides with the hours its left outside. I would estimate it barks about 10 times per day for perioRAB of 5 mins at a time, at an average of 1 bark every 2 seconRAB. Thats 1,500 barks per day !
 
Exactly Jenn, I have appreciated any of the suggestions and will put a few into practice.

It's not a thread started for people to berate me for having dogs but to solve the problem so the dogs are quiet and happier.
 
You could seek advice through a dog trainer who has recognisable qualifications or a meraber of a organisation. This way if you are making an effort or shown to be making an effort it will delay the council and work in your favour.
 
This is excellent advice - the dogs have to know where they stand in the 'pack', once that is settled they should settle down. Also when it comes to feeding make certain your first and they have to wait.

Thinking about it maybe you're right. And maybe you don't go far enough; people in flats should not be allowed a TV or sound system because loud music/TV is a major cause of disputes. Take their kiRAB away too. Ban any "non rubber sole non flat" shoes with a threat of death by firing squad.

All these luxuries should be reserved to the people who can afford a detached house.
 
yup. How would Jenn like it if my dogs barked for 30 mins? Expect her to lump it? What if she works night shift and the dogs wake her up every single night.

It's just being selfish.
 
Did you see the statistics? 4 times more people have issues with loud TV/music than with noisy pets. So do you want to ban dogs or TVs first? Because obviously people don't know how to use the volume control.

My point was that if you want to ban dogs in flats, you may as well ban what's a much bigger nuisance. That's far from silly.
 
People are more important than pets. The OP's neigrabroadours lives are being disrupted by the OP's dogs barking. This is not acceptable and I personally believe that the dogs dont like being cooped up in the flat whilst the OP works.

Bringing in straw man arguements that no flat owners should be allowed AV gear and children is childish and flawed in the fact that noise laws exist against noise from AV gear, children and bugger me sideways, barking dogs - the op is not being picked on because he lives a flat!

Once again, It's my belief that dogs need more open space than can be provided by a flat when left to themselves and I believe this is contributing to the barking. I could of course be completely wrong, however, since none of us speaks "dog" we'll probably never know.

I have no issues with the OP, dogs orflat owners etc and I hope it gets sorted to everyones benefit, but you can't stop me believing that dogs need more space than can be provided in a flat.

Finally, I know of many large detached houses also unsuitable for dogs...gardens of size are few and faw between in some urban areas (especially in London).
