Dogs barking problems

Engage your brain for 2 seconRAB and point out to me where I might have suggested it was ok for a dog to bark for 30 minutes every day??

In fact don't bother because you won't be able to simply because I never did.

There is a massive difference between not tolerating a dog barking for 30 minutes every day and actually banning the ownership of dogs for anyone living in a flat and getting people who own a dog to abandon it because their pesonal situation forces them to move into a flat through no fault of their own for example.

Like I said you may as well ban everyone who doesn't own a detached house from owning any type of AV equipment other than earphones.
I've had more problems with idiot neigrabroadours putting their sub up to 11 to listen to some crap music than I have had with dogs barking.
I'm sure that move would be popular on the AV forum!

And people are more important than a TV.
You seem to think a dog is way down on the list of priorities but a TV is some kind of right?
I happen to think that a living creature is way up on the list, higher than an object.

The OP isn't picked on because she lives in a flat. But people have suggested banning dogs from flats hence my argument.

Here we go again, people can and do take their dogs to parks and wooRAB for long walks.
Just answer me this: does a dog know whether it is inside a flat or a detached house?

Leaving a dog outside all day while people are at work is not a solution, regardless of the size of the plot.

walleee, it's not a question of defending anyone. She's asking for advice on how to solve a problem and people are telling her off for having the problem. It's not helpful.

If you asked a question, say "I've seen this TV I really love the look of, can someone tell me where I can buy it at a resonable price" and the next 10 posts said "you must have terrible taste, why would you buy this rubbish TV you idiot", you might not want to ask for help again.

To me that makes it easier to get rid when you end up forced to move into a flat than a living creature that you're responsible for.

LOL @ defending, it is a public forum and everyone is entitled to their opinion. But I'm asking for advice and help and being upfront about my problem. It's fair enough to have an opinion if I was saying how bad the complainant was for making a complaint about my dogs, and that I wouldn't be working with the Council to sort the problem out! But I'm not am I...

My dogs mean everything to me, I am in this situation through no fault of mine nor the dogs actions. We found ourselves needing a one bedroom place and got offered a council flat, it isn't ideal I agree, but it's home now - my intentions are to try and make the best out of this situation, and make it a nice place to be for me my dogs and my neigrabroadours.

Maybe the only people allowed to live in flats should be: Wheelchair bound Mormon (no AV equipment) mute (or single), living in a flat with no doors and who don't have frienRAB or pets and hate playing music, sport or DIY.

Friend of mine recently got a council flat, well it's a housing association and he isn't allowed to have a dog.He had to sign a contract. On another noise related problem in flats,he also isn't allowed to put down wood/laminate flooring.

We've got 2 dogs and live in a flat (ground floor) and have never had any issues from neigrabroadours, who in fact all get on with the dogs and play with them if we are out in the communal garden. But when you say cooped up do you think all dogs are big german shepherRAB that need hours of exercise everyday and have boundless energy?

Our 2 are little Shih Tzus that need about 15 mins of exercise a day and can happily get that just playing fetch in the hallway. So isn't it more a case of a suitable animal for a suitable living area?

I found a website Fromm Mattys link and I'm going to revert to acting like the pack leader - I am the boss but realise they're not humans and I have to be the boss in their eyes.

dudeness, another thing to try is the following;
Get another person to sit in your flat with the dogs both on their respective collars and leaRAB. You then leave the flat. The instant that one of the dogs barks, the person holding the lead gives it a short, sharp (but not overly so!) tug, and says firmly "NO!" - probably best to get someone who can sound like they are in charge (a 5 year old kid won't do!)
After a few times of this, the dog learns that by barking, they get checked. It is not a punishment exercise, it simply shows the dog that by barking when someone leaves the pack, they get checked. Some people may say this is cruel, but think of this, what happens in a real dog pack when a puppy misbehaves? They get bitten...
Like the 5 minute rule, this method does give fairly fast results, and I would say to at least give it a bash (er, the exercise, not your dogs!) If this method is no good for you, try another, you will get the result you want, and despite what some may say, dogs are very fast at learning from a good teacher (just like humans). My GSD pup was house trained in 2 days - easy when you know how

It should not be a painful experience for your pet, this is the same method which is used to train a dog to heel when walking on a lead. Again, from my personal experience, this is a must-have in the dog owner/ Alphas repertoire, dogs should not walk in front of the Alpha (a fully grown German Shepherd would have absolutely no problems dragging my wife/daughter down the road!)

I do the whole walking in front of my husky, I make a point of being the alpha as her breed is very pack orientated and she likes to try and be queen bee!

She always listens to me and by comparison never listens to my mrs who must be a mere minion in her eyes
