Does your weight affect the ability to practice contortion and stretch?

It would help if you lost a little weight, but it is not necessary. Just keep stretching and give it some time. You don't want to go all out right away.
 
I am 15 and I want to be more flexible for a lot of reasons, but I'm not a gymnastic type, more of a strong, sturdy built soccer/softball/track-and-field (I play left defense in soccer) althete. Also I'm 188 + or - and I should be anywhere from 120 to 140. I have just tried to stretch and I can't do a cartwheel, bridge, spilt, or sit with my knees bent like some little kids do. These hurt!!! Is that O.K.? Should I keep trying? And also, I'm afraid I'll fall anytime I do any handstand type stuff so I can't do those either. Help??!
