Does the claim compensation culture really annoy you?

As we exited a mini roundabout in very slow traffic (about 5mph) another driver coming from the right drove straight over it and into the back of us. There was a slight scratch on both cars, both of which rubbed away. No dents or any other damage. Our then-7-month old daughter didn't even wake up and I didn't feel the impact.

Now the driver is claiming 3 counts of whiplash (himself and 2 passengers)! It's incredulous and even with a police report which backs us up on how the incident occured (he was a couple of cars behind) and a private accident investigation report we've commissioned, the insurance company still wants to try and settle!

Do you have any examples of such crooks?!
Forgot - I 100% agree, Even though investigations have shown that whiplash is only suffered in accidents over 10mph the police can't prove fraud. In addition it's the front car that suffers from the injury more than the rear vehicle. The policeman at the scene said it was laughable when we told him about the claims but there's nothing more we can do.

Furthermore it turns out one of the passengers has been regularly seeing her GP regarding an operation she had months before the accident. Strangely enough it was a doctor about 50 miles away from where they live that diagnosed the whiplash.

This would be laughed out of court if the insurance company could be bothered.

Yes it does, I'm sick of "Ambulance chaser" adverts on TV and people claiming whiplash for every single little knock and bump they have.

"claim compensation culture" is inaccurate in describing these liars and cheats.

It's not the culture, it's not a valid claim, - they're liars and cheats.

But I was in a head-on with my 9 mos (+ 6 days). pregnant wife. Not my fault, - we had the baby that evening, and I thought to myself, - I'll take what the insurance company offers, - if everything turns out OK.

- And it did, - and I did.

there was that indian fella in birmingham who clocked up 90 claims for whiplash and stress, he got his mates to stay behind him at a roundabout so when he braked hard they hit him and the car behind ran into the back of his mates car. it was only when some good public minded citizens noticed the same car same driver doing the exact same thing a week later from an office block overlooking the roundabout when the police were called. if it wasnt for them he would still be doing it. he and his mates were given a long holiday at her majestys pleasure. its hard to say who are the real crooks the law firms the insurance firms or the scumbags who pull whiplash claims from a tiny shunt.

Liars and crooks is an excellent description. As a claims rep for an insurance company, I hear these kinds of stories daily. One particular call I remember, a lady called to file a claim against one of our customers for an auto accident. Throughout the conversation, I heard lots of activity going on, and every time I asked her for accident information, she took a long time to find it. I finally asked her if she was home and safe, and she then informed me that she was in the emergency room, lying on a back board! I was shocked. I offered to let her go so she could get checked out, at which time her husband got on the phone and said, "No, we need to do this now, you can finish." So I continued the call, then I heard a doctor approach the woman and tell her, "There's nothing wrong with you, you can get up." At which time the husband said, "Shh, she's on the phone with the insurance company!" I noted all of this in the file before I sent it to the adjuster, and based on that, my company paid her nothing. They even secured a written statement from the doctor to attest to that.
