Does poverty diminish human dignity?

Yes, poverty diminishes human dignity, which in turn transforms into anger against society's indifference and subsequent chances of crime. It can also work in a different way where poverty awakens the human spirit and the person tries everything possible (ethically) to get himself out of the situation. It's a matter of seeing the glass either half empty or half full.

Poor people commit petty crimes out of a need to escape poverty this does little other than strip them of their dignity. Rich people,on the other hand, are the main cause of poverty. As Bob Dylan put it "steal a little and they'll put you in jail, steal a lot and they'll make you a king."

Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

Crime is committed in most cases because the person doesn't care about the consequences, doesn't understand the consequences, or believes they can get away with it and avoid the consequences.

Sometimes, but very rarely, crimes are committed out of necessity. Like a bum trying to mug someone because they have no money, no food, no shelter, haven't eaten in three days, so it is now or never. Their primal instincts for survival takes hold.

Very rarely does the primal instinct actually kick in. It is usually more of a mental hunger that drives people do commit crimes in that nature.

So while I don't think poverty creates criminals, it may create people who have survival higher on the list. If its a choice between food or helping a stranger? They will be selfish and choose food. If they had the choice of stabbing someone for a piece of bread or going hungry? That is based on morals. Just because you are poor and hungry, doesn't mean you will automatically toss laws to the wind and do what it takes. Some people would mug someone for bread, but cause no permanent damage. Those who choose to do more permanent things, can be rich or poor.

Actually poverty compels some time to diminish dignity. A man is not inborn criminal, a number of things works as an yoke on him when he is poor . he is bound by the chain of poverty , illiteracy, social indignity . He wants to come out of all these evils , as a consequence he does crime . He sees in the same society some one is leading a life, or so called dignified life simply with money . He falls in the trap of provocation . He is compelled to do crime .It mainly happens in urban areas
But the villagers & farmers are also poor , they are away from provocation , so hardly there is any crime .If the poor people do the crime , I have sympathy for them .
But what about rich ? They do more crime than the poor , their greed is not to come out from poverty . simply they want to raise their standard of life ,they do competition with another rich & take the help of any illegal method ,they exploit their employee . Their crime cannot be forgiven.
Percentage wise I feel rich people are more criminal minded than the poor . They can't be recognized
as they live in a social protection ,but poor people are open criminal .
Society which based on sharp inequality , this thing will continue to happen .
