Does it bother you how the modern culture knows nothing of the arts?

I mean, seriously, The only painting people really know is the Mona Lisa. And dont even answer this question saying, " I KNOW ART!" i dont give a crap. But really, does it bother you, and how or why?

You could say the same thing about anything mildly historical. It's the natural way of the world. People lose interest in things that used to be insanely popular. Now, I pose an even more powerful question... Who gives a rat's ass?

It does bother me. I took an art history class a couple years ago, and it was one of the most rewarding classes I've taken. Now, I'm really into art, but it helped me a lot with world knowledge as well. So much of the art is SO connected to the time, place, and culture it was produced in, in order to learn about the piece, you needed to know what it came from.

It gave me a knowledge of the world I never would have fully grasped from a normal history class.

Yes, it does. I'm not saying that people need to know all artists, authors, and craftsmen by name and piece....but seriously. At least know how to appreciate art or recognize famous pieces.

not really..caz it's not true that modern culture don't know anthing about art......maybe they don't give old fashion art that important caz pple change as time change..and so does everything else...so ya modern culture have modern art...so not a big deal that they don't know much abut old fashion art

Maybe it has to do more with modern art than it does modern culture.

You can only bamboozle people only for so long, calling something art which is really just trash. Eventually people collectively come to this realization themselves and lose interest in the medium of art itself.

Perhaps the next artistic movement will bring back talent into the art world and help to re-inspire interest from modern culture.

People in the art world really think they are special. I appreciate Beautiful items and items of historical significance. But looking at paintings doesn't make a person smarter.

You should watch "My Kid Could Paint That" and "Who The &^%$ Is Jackson Pollock"
Those are two really good documentaries about the art world that shows what a joke the art world can be.They are very funny and entertaining, and insightful

It's not only art but the Arts. Music (I mean REAL music not the pop garbage we're inundated with), Theater, Dance, Literature and Art have all been 'budgeted out' of the school programs. I can't believe how little time teachers are allowed to teach any kind of classic education.

It's abominable.

Since our children get none of this in school now, it's up to the parents to pick up the slack.
