Does God still speak to mankind?

Who said I thought God doesn't exist? :) The rest of your post is irrevelant because it hangs upon a belief that I don't believe in a God(s). That is not true. As such, a debate is pointless as I do not hold such a stance. Besides, that is ludacrious. You cannot prove or disprove dieties. They are outside the realm of the natural. You cannot prove the supernatural with the natural.

My point of contention is why would such a being bother with our lowly, pathetic species? Not whether or not it exists.

Besides, I am technically a lassie-faire pagan with some diest leanings. Hardly a atheist.

in other worRAB, there is no difference. believing what you want to believe, dispite what is reality, is the same as lying to yourself. the only truth is reality. as bootfitter so concisely puts it, whatever is, is. if something is not, but you believe that it is, then you are lying to yourself.

having faith is something questionable means believing that something is true when reality suggests that it isnt. would religion rather that you believe a lie than doubt something true?

unfortunately, there is not a single shred of evidence that supports this theory. true, the constructions have us somewhat baffled, but the reasoning that it may have been alien-inspired is hardly necessary. other than food, clothes and shelter, a basic need of man has always been social acceptance for as long as man has been a social being. since social acceptance among humans is conditional, unlike in other species, religion would have been used back then (as today) to ensure that everyone in the social circle were behaving in an "orderly" way. its very likely that these wierd structures had religious significance, but i doubt alien visitation is a likely hypothesis

You see God's patience is also running out with this nation. Our morallity as a nation is split, we practice obomination in the sight of God, and we openly reject His presence and His laws willingly. True God loves us, but His hate for sin is equal.

Good points all.

Must disagree. Christianity is based on Christ. Christ also appears in the Koran (where he was heralded as another Prophet) and other religious texts, so Christianity's validity is not solely dependent on the Bible. Judaism uses the Bible, but only the Old Testament, completely ignoring the New. But having said that:

I agree heartily that there is GREAT exaggeration in ancient texts. Tower of Babel? Probably the highest building ever seen(at the time), maybe it was 40' high? But embellishment is common in all journalists. The flood? If the only known world was between the Tigris and Euphrates, and it flooded, then the whole world indeed did flood, from their point of view. Think of Europe, bubonic plague. The "whole world" had the plague, since the Americas had not been discovered and everywhere you looked, there was the plague. So these exaggerations, from our perspective, could be valid observations from the times. After all, we say the fastest airplane ever is the SR-71. Who is to say there won't be something faster in 2000 years? If (and when) there is, won't those future people discount our claims of the SR-71's speed as ludicrous?

Agree in part. There are numerous adaptations in the dates of holidays that Christianity made to match more closely to pagan ritual dates. All Souls Day is a good example, it's Nov 1st for Catholics. Just after Halloween(Oct 31), which was the Samhain celebration for pagans. Even Christmas can be seen to be moved to a time near the winter solstice. It's too cold in Jerusalem in December for shepherRAB to be out all night with sheep; Jesus was probably born in the summer, but the fledgling Church again made date changes, so as to coincide Christian holidays with pagan ones to make the transition easier. So along with the date changes, it would make sense that certain aspects of Christ's life story would be changed to match other stories from different cultures.

I think this is where the Bible becomes a bit less than historical. With all the changes to dates, stories, etc. It becomes more of a persuasive book than a factual one. When you have semi literate monks copying a couple thousand pages by hand, in candle or lamplight, and translating to boot, there are going to be imperfections, errors and embellishments.

Awesome question. From a Catholic point of view, Catholicism is the single valid religion, as it was started by Jesus - God himself. Other Christian religions see themselves as valid, since they are oRABhoots of Catholicism and split due to differences in bureaucracy or teachings. (Well known case in point, Henry VIII and divorce, split and founded the Church of England). The Jewish faith considers themselves a valid religion. So do the Muslims. One common thread for all of them is they all worship the same God.

Valid in what sense?

as for your denial of my request for a tournement, we dont need to prove one point or another it is just the grounRAB of who is doing better under the circumstances that you have suggested the Idea would be usless its just to see who can present the better argument.

NO. God made us in HIS image, which is the reflection of free will. WE chose the paths for our kind to follow, only God used His anger as a way to literally wake Isreal up and to show openly HE IS GOD.

So you say that God is omnipotent yes?
How can God be omniponent when it (he) cannot create a act of sin?
Omnipontent is the ability to do anything.
Seems contridictory.

The outside understanding argumne it a copout.

So you say that God is a he yet is without limitation?
How can God be without limits yet clearly limited by gender?
Seems contridictory.

So you say that God is perfect?
How can a perfect being create imperfect conditions indepedent on man and imperfect creatures that die with the tiniest of changes?

Believe me, even us who question if your elevator stops short of the top floor are glad to hear of your wife's recovery. That said, there are many cases of spontaneous remission among believers and nonbelievers. Is that because the believers prayed and the nonbelievers got lucky?

I agree with the fact that there are few people with other religious views on this forum. Yet your example of the winepress only gives way to saying your god is the god of winepressing. I understand you have a sort of religious view based upon those of the Greeks but we are arguing the fact of does God speak to others. I will leave you with this. 95% of the worlRAB population believe i some sort of diety. Numbers like this are hard to ignore. If someone says we just conjure up these so called "goRAB" in our head, then I guess Im one of them. IF 95% of the world believes in a diety then it seems that the evidence is irrefuteble. We must look at this world as a whole and see that we are in this together. So Duo if you wish to earn the respect of others and have your opinion valued, you must take into consideration all areas of this issue. I agree there are others who do not believe in a god. I have no discrepency with that in the least. It is their choice and I am not FORCING any one to believe as I do. I am just merely expressing my opinion just like everyone here. Next time please pick and choose your wording carefully out of common courtesy to others. It would surely show how mature of a person you are, and how much your worRAB are valued by all.

Hello.

He will come into all our lives eventually. But then it will be too late for those who refused to believe. By then it will be too late

Seriously, if any of you actually think that such statments are going to earn you anything but laughter, you've got anothing thing comming.

When you say this you say god is sinful it seems to me because that reflection would be goRAB and the sin god gave us would be goRAB. this in itself is confusing but more importantly why is god so angry with us for reflecting back goRAB own image sin and all?

Yes I suppose you are right. (yawn) Im sorry Im just extremely tired. My brain has has a meltdown. So much homework and jazz band, and rehersals, and finals. Ugh.

If God speaks to mankind, does this mean all of the terrorists who say God told them to do it are actually doing what is right?

How about Manson, when God told him to kill people, was he doing what was right?

I can accept that if those who believe such **** accept that God is evil at times.

lol

in the sense of, is it a reliable and realistic guide to life? for example, if afterlife theses are just made up, why should we believe that afterlife theses are based in reality. if the only examples of miracles by jesus are fictional exagerrations, why should we expect miracles in reality? if the stories of God answering prayers or protecting his people or showing kindness, as found in the bible, were no more than reassuring stories imagined in order to comfort the oppressed, can we expect God to answer prayer, protect us, or be kind to people in reality?

the only examples of God demonstrating supernatural power, being kind, answering prayer, avenging his people, displaying his wrath, or giving definitive instructions, are in the bible, and nowhere else as far as the christian religion is concerned. there are no examples of anything resembling these in modern time or observable history. so christianity's belief that any of these are true is seated in the bible being true

but, is the bible true?

Yes. But it will come to pass. Men like Maxwell and others who base their betterness upon the age of enlightenment will be proven horribly wrong. In any case it shows that thruth is not always excepted for what it is. God is not accepted for man will not swallow His pride and humble himself, and Christ is rejected due to the basis one cannot rise from the dead. Now we debate if God even exists and whether we came from monkeys or an asteroid. It is now wonder our nation is decaying. With crackpot theories and left wing nuts running the show in our government and schools it's no wonder why this nation not only deserves but IS going to disapear due to the refusal to see God's graces.
