Doctors fail me.

Well, about three months ago I hot diagnosed with Appendicitis. No problem the docs said, it was minor enough right there I could take Penicillin pills and the infection would die. Well, I got to taking them, and of course with my luck the infection somehow was a tough strand and just mutated. Ok, no problem the doc said, take THESE pills now. They where a synthetic penicillin that should annihilate the mutated infection.

Well ok, so I took them. I was wondering why the doctors didn't just suggest surgery ASAP but whatever, I didn't go to Harvard or anything so I listened in. Now, I thought the infection was good as dead, no more pain, but I was good boy and took all of my pills normally until they where gone. But the pain still was there in my side. I go back to the hospital and they said I need surgery, but I will get it in a week and a half. They said my Appendix was about at what they called critical, but would last me at least another half month.

I was in school walking to the door to go to my locker, and the pain spiked to all hell. I dropped too the ground and couldn't stand, It just wouldn't stop hurting. A couple of my classmates thought I was screwing around until I started yelling a little. That got the teacher to sprint too the intercom to request the ambulance. Well, I had three other students, two girls and one of my friends sitting around me panicking, and they stayed like that until the paramedics finally got there.

I felt like I was about to explode while I was in the ambulance. The Paramedic had the bright idea of asking me if I was in pain, which I curtly replied with a Fuck You. I get to the hospital, and they tell me too grab the rail of the bed thing as hard as I can. Soon after, I get a LONG needle stuck in my side which I could only guess as some form of infection killer or something, because it only made me burn even more. A little after that, I got put too sleep and they did they're doctor stuff. Well, after I woke up in the hospital bed, I felt like complete and total shit for the next week. After that I started to feel a little better but it was a slow recovery.

Now, the most recent horrible news for me, I went in for my checkup two days ago. I asked if having a faint pain in my side still is normal, the doctor frowned and started poking and prodding. He told me that during my Appendectomy, they didn't remove all of the appendix's tissue, and the remaining tissue is still infected and trying to keep the infection alive and spread. He said, I may need another surgery here soon. That sucks because A. I'm so sick of the doctors, and yes, a little afraid of surgery. And B. he told me that if I have the surgery then I will miss the first quarter of my Football season, and this year I made starting Varsity defensive line, and if I miss that, then the rest of my season is going to be shit. I forgot to ask if there wasn't any alternative to surgery or anything so, I'm freaking out right now!

Something to this effect is going on-

It's more of a guessing game, tissue isn't easy to write on so they mold your insides into something and then another doctor tries to guess what it is.

It's true-I saw it on an episode of Oprah.

Do some research on the hospitals and doctors near you that you feel might do a better job. If you do the research, that might make you feel a little more confident that at least you know somethign about the doctors working on you. If anything, you'll know the hospital has a good rep and the doctors that go there are more likely to do the job correctly the first time. In this case, it'd be the second time, but hopefully the last time you have to worry about your appendix!!

I'm sorry you had to go through that. The doctors were just trying to avoid surgery since healing from surgery can be hard to deal with some times. That sucks that you had such a resistant strain of infection...even worse that it's still there! I just hope that if you have to go back again, the healing time will be easier for you. I'm sorry you may have to miss part of the football season. Your health is more important, but i do understand how difficult this is since you worked so hard at getting the position you got this year! Hopefully the coach will let you play that position once youa re able to get back in the game.

Wow, that sucks dude. That really, really sucks. I agree with ^Bitch - do some research into the Drs who are treating you. Who knows, you could find out that they have a history of pussyfooting around their patients, leading to delayed responses to serious infections. x_x Geez, I know Drs are under stress these days with the crappy public health/ health system in general, but that's just lax. Shouldn't they have referred you to a specialist?

On the bright side, if anything worse happens I'm sure you could sue them for malpractice.

Yeah, thanks! I'm going to go check up on the docs and stuff here ASAP. And yeah, I thought about that over health and sports, and a part of me would make the health sacrifice in a second. I live in a small town, and sports are the only thing I have.

Living in a small town ain't that bad. At least if you establish yourself in something (sports, work, community) it lasts for a pretty long time. I used to live in a really small town in NZ and I often wonder if things would've been different if I'd stayed there. Now I live in a suburb in a city and I have encountered more problems than I care to mention.

If you have to give up football b/c of the infection, do it for now. I'm sure you could try out for other teams later on? Couldn't you? Or is college football only accepting people straight out of high school? That's crap if that's the case. You could try a coaching position too if it doesn't work out.

Thank you, yeah, I've decided the number one thing I want to do is get out of here after highschool, im going to join the Army, then after that I want to be a police officer in some bigger city. Something exciting.

Law enforcement is definitely the way to go. Recession-proof, respected (by some), always needed etc. It seems you have thought about it a bit so it's so bad if football falls through. I thought about joining army just in the administration side of it, it's not too bad. Get to travel etc.

Yeah exactly. Just for me its more persona. Most of my entire male family has served and fought in wars, most turned into war heroes. Do to Iraq, I lost four of my cousins who where all brothers to me, so I feel its not only my national duty, but a duty too their memories and so on. I really want to go Army Rangers Airborne. Thats one reason out of many football is so important to me, it keeps me in great shape for it.
