do you think that the current celebrity driven culture we live in is in part

responsible for the credit crunch? here's my theory...saving up has gone out of fashion. young people see all these extremely rich young people who have so much and they want it too. the wealth of other people is so much pushed in the faces of today's youth, in the form of celebrity mags, tv shows such as mtv cribs etc. envy is human nature, but what the kids don't get is that these people work for their wealth(with the obvious exceptions). no matter how overpaid you may think the beckhams (just an example) are, the fact is they work for their living. ok, they may not "work" as hard as the average people, but the fact is their particular talents come at a premium.the banks then make it easy for these wannabees to imitate their idols by throwing credit at them too easily and irresponsibly, but what about personal responsibility and self control? if we cant afford something in our house then we don't buy it or we save up for it. simple economics.do we need to be trying to introduce new values to our young people, such as the value of the word "no"?

i think this could be one of the reasons... but there obviously isn't just one reason for the credit crunch. i think that if each celebrity gave 20% of what they earned, then the credit crunch would be a lesser problem. i don't think you should buy everything for your children. maybe give them an average monthly allowance and don't give them anymore money if they finish that money. then they'll learn the value of money and understand things like this more.

Possibly but you must also question why we have a celebrity driven culture in the first place.

The answer clearly is the dumbing down of society by the Blair government.
People havent always been fascinated to such an extent by someone elses life.
Despite New Labour attempts to conceal the mass stupidity with the easing of examsit is has been proved that we have a lower average IQ compared to 30 years ago.

Yes I agree. The media shoves all this wealth in young faces, forgetting the fact that not many people in the world have such talents as for example David Beckham or Mariah Carey, and they think they can all become singers and footballers of the highest order.
You only have to watch x factor or such shows, they all think they are great and most are rubbish. Even the ones that win, with a few exceptions disappear without trace after.
All you say is true but I think its too late now to go back to basics.

The current situation has absolutely zip to do with people's domestic spending. I agree with what you say but the current meltdown was caused by the banks and financial institutions and an unsustainable system.
