Do you think all cultures are equal?

What we wear, eat/drink, dating traditions, what face we put on "god" is all cultural. And it really doesnt matter...if you eat cow or pig or if they eat dog.
And ya that stuff is pretty equal, it's all the same thing standards and traditions put in place to help individuals get along and work together.

The selling of women, slaughter of infants, and press ganging children into warfare...are clear cut human rights violations and shouldn't be acceptable no matter how long the "culture" has been doing such.
 
Of course not, there are some that are more "equal" in terms of rights of women, etc. but then there are some that are very restrictive.
 
Its like having 2 different opinions....Neither are no more valid than the other (Unless of course one is the opinion of an incredibly stupid person).

You do things this way...They do things that way.

@Dark eyes- Most of the women in those middle-eastern countries actually condone the killing of their children.....It brings shame upon their family<-- This is the concept of culture. We just have a different way of life, thats all.

Edit: Congratulations, babe...You've just discovered that fascists exist in middle-eastern countries too. Which was my point, genius. They vilify us too, its called a difference in culture<-- Not quite sure how you're not getting this. lol Who's a clever girl then :-P??

I will openly admit that I view some cultures as being barbaric and backwards, if not completely savage. This doesn't mean that I wish to change their culture, it means that I disagree with it and openly view it as being backwards and barbaric.
The thing is, I don't respect all cultures, and I highly doubt that you do, either. You just appease other cultures.
Boo, do you think Middle Eastern cultures respect your decadent, morally corrupt, poisonous British/Western/European culture? They openly condemn it and vilify it in their media, their society and politics. I've lived in a Middle Eastern country and I know what I speak of. They consider the British girls who holiday in their country to be prostitutes they don't have to pay. So why is it that you are so craven and spineless when it comes to expressing your views about their culture? That is why barbarians with an eye patch and a hook hand can go to your country and milk the place for what it's worth.
 
Those cultures may view YOUR culture as barbaric and non-progressive.

It's important to respect all cultures and realise that diversity is just something that is, and not try to work against it.
 
Your type of thinking has been used to justify greed, colonialism apartheid, slavery, and the displacement of Indians. Yes I believe all cultures are equal. If someone is happy living in a grass hut we should leave them alone. Know how much of your consumerism is possible because of human rights violations? Yo ain't nothing but another bigot. I view Middle Easterners as barbaric in their treatment of women. About a year ago, I came across an article on Y!A about a man shooting both his daughters [for attempting to marry other men, not approved of ny their father] and his wife...the childrens' mother for pleading with him for their lives.

I think I'd have rather been shot, though, too...especially if my children were gone.
 
They are definitely not equal. I think it is also obvious that some are more advanced and some are more barbaric. If they were all the same...they wouldn't be considered "different" cultures. We'd just have one big world culture.

Kind of like if men and women were exactly the same we wouldn't be men and women. We'd all be mewomen. ;-)
