MLK, for example. Should we just ignore all he did for black people (and people in general) because he made some mistakes? I keep seeing people on here bad mouthing this brother for things he did years ago and just ignoring all he did to make this world a better place.
These critics haven't done anything to improve humanity, yet they try to destroy the legacy of a person who did.
I got accused of ad hominem attacks for using very unkind words against such a person, but isn't besmirching a man's name while leaving his overall message untouched and unrefuted an ad hominem attack? You know, leaving the message to go for the messenger's throat? Why not refute King's message instead of attacking him personally? His message is what's being propagated, not so much his personal life. He has a holiday in his honor, not because of what he did behind closed doors, but because of his MESSAGE. The fact that people have to attack King himself indicates that he had a message they can't refute. A message they can't reason against. A message that shatters their preconceived views of the world around them. It is the bit dog who yelps the loudest.
Also, it is hypocritical, because we ALL have shortcomings. The only difference is your shortcomings are not broadcasted to the world. Should we hang a man for not being perfect? Who is? If you think you are perfect, I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.
So do we just ignore all King did because he had shortcomings? What do you all think?
