Having spent time in southeast Asia, I have learned to respect Asian culture, at least as I was able to understand it. Unfortunately, there is a huge disconnect between cultures because of the suspicion each one has towards the other.
I believe that most Asians learn about Americans from the military establishment, and this is an unrealistic view of the American people. Many military personnel are young and uncultured. When they do have the opportunity to comingle amongst the natives of a country, it is in the bars, dance halls, and amongst the prostitutes. This is hardly a realistic evaluation of a people or its culture, from either perspective.
I can't speak for all white people, but I enjoy the people of the Asian countries I have visited. It would be unable to enjoy these cultures, if I looked down on them and I believe many people feel the same way.
Two of my most loyal friends here in the US are Phillipine immigrants. We have worked and socialized together for over eight years, and our friendship has stayed strong.
