... and afraid to speak out for fear of being branded racist?

I feel that the government are not dealing with this issue- they encourage acceptance and community but do not seem to understand that integration of cultures which have developed independently takes time, understanding, and ultimately requires a certain sacrifice. In my opinion, white British people are expected to bend over backwards to accommodate while other cultures throw a hissy fit if they are asked to adapt to British culture.

Like I say, this is only my opinion, but I left Northern Ireland to live in England when I was 18 and found that I had escaped a place with two distinct, albeit opposing communities, to a country fragmented, afraid and facing a crisis of identity. I am by no means racist, enjoy the friendship of many people from other countries, but from bits and pieces I have gathered from my English friends there is often a simmering resentment underneath a thin veneer of 'we must be PC'. I believe this is down to the incompatibility of beliefs and a lack of understanding on everyone's part.

I'd be interested to hear any opinions.
