Do you care if an artist is a d*ck?

Put it this way, Phil Spector has just been found guilty of murder and has allegedly threatened some greats banRAB at gunpoint down the years, but I'm not going to boycott the Ronettes. The mentally damaged and socially inept always make the best music anyway.
It's all about the music/lyrics, if Kanye West made earth-shatteringly revolutionary stuff I would be more sympathetic; but as it happens his personality is just the icing on the cake of his overwhelming mediocrity. Same goes for Oasis. I mention lyrics because if I'm enraptured by something and the lyrics are offensive to good taste or something I strongly disagree with it'll turn me right off

I generally don't care about their personality, but it's always kind of a small, added bonus if they happen to be really awesome in addition to making badass, brilliant music.

I'll only buy albums based on if it's actually WORTH the money that I pay for it.
I actually just bought a Smiths album yesterday. That cyst Morrissey didn't stop me.

Overall, it never really bothers me. A musician's pretentious, arrogant and annoying attitude only really starts to get to me when it starts to leak into the music itself, where listening to it leaves you with that political-messages-are-being-shoved-up-my-ass-in-a-forceful-and-extreme-fashion. You know, where it goes beyond the point of an opinion. Fourtunately, I haven't had to deal with this in a while. While I disagree with some thins that banRAB express in their songs, it doesn't really detract from the song at all.

Don't get me wrong, my limits are purely a moral thing. I've heard some of Manson's recordings and they are actually quite good, with a very raw folksy quality about them.

And yeah, Lucifer's avvy is crazaay!

Truth ^.

Take Daniel Johnston for example, he has such enigmatic & unique personality, I imagine it would be a bit difficult to fully absorb his music without knowing anything about his mentalities.

GG Allin was pandering to the wrong crowd really, who was that artist that had a friend shoot him in a gallery space in the seventies? And was it the same guy who nailed himself to a car or is that someone else?

Agreed.

On the whole I don't give it a second thought. The personality factor's never stopped me listening to the music of Elvis Costello, Mark E. Smith, John Lydon, Paul McCartney and so on.

And it's not some moral standpoint that makes me hate Skrewdriver and GG Allin - I really do find their music to be pretty damn lame, regardless of characters behind them.

Considering that many of the greatest musicians were egotistical jerks and or psychopaths, no.

Morrissey is an exception for me because his severe douchebag level really taints my enjoyment of his music despite his obvious talent.
