Do you care if an artist is a d*ck?

I have always been a huge Kurt Cobain fan. I have the t-shirts, the posters, the dvRAB, everything. But man, after I watched him act like a little spoiled brat on Nirvana: MTV Unplugged I was very dissapointed. And all of his band merabers had to pretty much babysit his ass the whole time through the show, I lost some major respect for ol' Kurt.

I don't know about you guys but when I hear someone sing a song, I get an image in my head about what they look like and what their personality is probably like. Doing this helps me get the extra feeling for the song they are singing. and when they turn out really ugly or if they are a **** then yes I can't think of the song in the same way as what I used to.

I guess I'm odd. If I like a mucisian, they can do no wrong in my eyes.
Scott Weiland is (was? can never tell with him) a heroin addicted wastoid, and even has his own ****epedia page, but he can do no wrong in my eyes because I LOVE HIS SONGS.
Lets take the King of Pop for instance. Child molestation. He is a giant punchline, but he just sold out a bunch of shows in England. Whether he was guilty or not, it affected his public image, but not his career. THATS BECAUSE HE'S STILL MAKING THE SAME QUALITY OF MUSIC.
Then look at Axl Rose. Also a giant punchline. He didn't get accused of anything other then being a d*ick, but his career is in the toilet. Most (me included...) agree that Chinese Democracy was beyond mediocre.
So I guess its just quality of music. Am I overthinking this?

I hate banRAB based on what i think of the people in the banRAB. GG allin is a prime example. Sure its pretty good punk rock, but GG is a piece of ****. Someone that can go around molesting people, does not get my support regardless of how good there music is. Skrewdriver and countless other right wing banRAB are the same story.

GG Allin was one messed up individual but no one was forced to see one of his shows and they knew what they were getting if they did. i have never even thought of GG Allin in this way. he was unique whether morally questionable or not.

I don't mind. In fact, especially when it comes to politics, I would rather not know what their political leanings are. It sort of bugs me, too, that some artists talk about that crap on stage, I'm there for the music, not what they think about this or that.

I saw Ryan Adams several years ago. Awful show. Drunk as a skunk. But I got over it and love him again.

Well, I'm glad you appreciate what I'm saying as a lot of people don't, also I thought I had another argument on my hanRAB... (which Im trying to avoid) but I still like to put my opinions across.
I just see the persons behaviour & the general perception of the person by the media/general public is totally irrelevant to my own when I listen to their music.

I just listen to the music. Do you stop reading a book because the author was a twat? No. The only time I would draw the line is convicted kiddie fiddlers.

I think that knowing the artist helps put music within a better context, it may be a little looser along the lines of judging but I think it is important to consider.

That's because most of the audience didn't seem to "get it". Now everybody knows that Nirvana hated Smells like teen Spirit, but back then I can't imagine how many people told Kurt "Oh I just love all your music! I just love that Smells like Teen Spirit!".

Besides that he didn't show really contempt.. alot of Nirvana concert videos show Kurt joking with the audience and just having fun.

And besides THAT, I think it's a pretty weak thing to "throw out all their discs" because of something like that. Cheers though for throwing in your opinion.

This is where my 2 cents comes in...

I couldn't care less what a musician is like at home, but when it starts to effect the music/lyrics/performences, THAT is when I care.

Of course for me there are limits, I refuse to listen to anyone who has taken a life for beat a woman senseless (so no Charles Manson or Chris Brown) ;)

DepenRAB. I don't give a **** of they do smack or things like that, but if they, say, raped someone (like James Brown did), I have a problem listening to them.
