Do you believe that "Under God" should be removed from the Pledge in public schools?

That is a result of th left's economic ideals. Leftists advocate a state-controlled economy, and with the separation of church and state, this means that churches have no funRAB whatsoever.

Economic freedom (in the mutualist sense) is inseparable from religious freedom.

When you say "Under God" it does just have to do with Christians..........Jews, Christians, Moslems and most religions beleive in God...............Polls have shown that around 90 percent of the people in this country believe in God...........This country was founded on religeous principles and its laws based on the 10 Commandments..............

Whether you like it or not God is and always will be a part of this country........

Thank you. 'Under God' in a national declaration of allegiance is about as close as one can get god into becoming a part of government. All citizens are supposedly granted freedom of religion, so remove the obviously Christian God and the problem is solved.

No, GOD should NOT be removed the pledge.

"GOD", as a word, is plenty vague enough to cover the GOD of any religion - except for the all-knowing, never-faithful athiests of course.

But that is not really the heart of the issue. There are those amoungst us who would prefer that no type of pledge, no version of commitment to country whatsoever be practiced.

Such imbiciles have stolen several flags from the front of my house in the past four years. They have been very, very, lucky so far.

Really? Let's look at some of the Commandments and see which American legal principles they conflict with.

#1: Thou shalt have no goRAB before me - conflicts with the legal and Constitutional principle of peaceful religious freedom.

#2: Thou shalt not make any graven images - conflicts with the freedom to make art, and even the Statue of Liberty.

#3: Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain - conflicts with the freedom of speech

and #10: Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's gooRAB - conflicts with the predominantly exchange-based economy we have.

The Ten Commandments are not the foundation of our laws.

What if most of the people of the country turned atheist or agnostic? You know, atheism and agnosticism is on the rise.

Thank you! There is no confirmation that I know of regarding whether the god referred to by our founding fathers was THE Christian God or not.

back to the original topic, I don't care if the country is 100% Christian, the government shouldn't advocate any religion, whatever it may be. They cannot claim that this country is under god, because AS A COUNTRY, this is not true. Individual people may feel they are under god but as Congress is making laws and all other process in the US, nowhere is there a God part. Also here's a quote I've heard:

Let alone public schools, a government-sponsored pledge should not claim that this country is under God.

That is a ridiculous argument and you know it..........

As I have said many times I suspect most atheists and Ignostics find God on their deathbeRAB..........

Well, you do know you lost this one because the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against that radical 9th circuit court in SF and said Under God is appropriate.......

You too Duo - you want the high ground defend it.

I think its more tradition, there seems very little movement to change 'God save the Queen' from our anthem, because it either means nothing to people or it does. I'd object to something like this being added, and I'm not too sure about the whole pledge in schools thing (seriously, its just weird) but traditions can be beneficial even if they don't really represent what they started as anymore.

Other religions generally have different names than the Christian God, belief systems preferring originality in naming their choice of mythological worship. I think it's a forgone conclusion, especially after some of the tirades regarding the danger of religion and state being combined by Jefferson and others, that our forefathers were referring to the Christian God.

Then your idea of religion is one many do not share. If God is found through fear, religion and the belief in God is nothing but a crutch for the weak to stand upon. I do notice you have fled like a shameless coward from a similar thread in the religious forum. Are you too weak to defend your position there? Is your GOD willing to give you a crutch to make up for your own failures?

If you think his argument is ridiculous, then you must think many of your own are the same.

I was at a high school basketball game in the town where I live awhile back......It was about the same time that that radical 9th circuit court in SF banned using under god in the plege........Well we said the pledge at that game and when we got to the worRAB under God it semed all the adults and students there took the time to hesitant and then say Under God loud and clear............It was great to see and I venture to say in that crowd of a few thousanRAB there were very few dry eyes.......I am proud to say That this is the kind of community I live in and it was great to see..........

God Bless America and our brave troops in harms way..............

Just as you lost the abortion argument in Roe v. Wade yet there is still debate. Supreme Court rulings are reversable.

Second of all:
They did not rule against the ruling and NEVER EVEN CLOSE TO IMPLIED that Under God is appropriate. They said the father didn't have the legal standing to sue because he is only one gardian of the daughter. Trust me, in the next couple of years there will be another court case where both the guardian and the student believe it should be removed. Either you need to learn your facts or you need to quit distorting them, one or the other.
