Do i really need a capacitor?

if you have the money get a better alt. caps dont keep it from dimming in the way that they make electricity(they don't) they just hold electricity until the amp needs it so they take electricity from the cap more than the amp kinda. for a lot better explanation e-mail sparky
 
Ok i have a 1000 watt amp just hooked up but the lights dim with the bass.(if the RPMs are over say 1500 then the lights don't dim nearly as much). But anyway i heard this isn't too good. I was about ready to go out and get a capacitor but i'm hearing mixed reviews on whether you should get a better alternator or get a capacitor? My stock alt is 78 amps. Getting a capacitor is a tempting solution (because its easier), but if i REALLY am better off getting a better alt then i guess i'll do it. So basically my question is, should i get a capacitor or a better alternator?
Will this cause damage to anything if i just run my system the way it is (with the lights dimming) for a while until i get money for the alternator?
 
A capacitor is only good so far as the audio system isn't trying to pull too much from the electrical system. A cap doesn't provide more power, it's designed to 'stiffen' the voltage to the amp, nothing else. If the current isn't there, a cap won't help.

You'd be better off to:

1. Upgrade the "Big 3" - that is to replace (or add to) the power wire between the battery and alternator, the ground from the battery to the chassis and the ground strap from the engine/tranny to the chassis.

2. Upgrade to a yellow top battery
