Hi Folks,

I have had minor lower back problems on an off for a few years. Recently It has become painful to change from a sitting position to a standing position in the area of my left hip. While is does not hurt to sit it does hurt after I get up. After limping around for a few minutes the discomfort mostly goes away. In addition I have notices pain at night while lying on my side which is always in the area of my left hip. The pain that I experience after standing is centralized in my back on the left side about 2 inches left of my backing bone and a little lower than my navel. Your ideas would be appreciated. My doctor has given my a script for PT but how do I chose on of those.

I have a similiar type of pain and just had an MRI. It revealed a bulged disc at L4/5 level. The pain is in the center of my lower back and goes a little to the right towarRAB the hip. So far no sciatica for me. Good Luck. You really should have an MRI. Sciatica is a shooting pain down the buttocks hamstrings and into the foot. It can also be nurabness or tingling.

Sciatica is a shooting pain deep in your butt cheek and/or down your leg. Your pain could still be disc related though. You really should get an MRI....ask your doc for one. Hope you get some relief soon!

Thanks for the rapid response folks. The other symptom I forgot to mention was that I have started to reach down and help lift my left leg when I want to put my leg on a foot stool or when I am driving my pickup, I find myself reaching down to help lift my leg up to the clutch.

That said, what is the treatment for a bulging disk? I that a life long ailment or is there hope?

Best to all,

I have similar symptoms caused by bulging discs at L4,L5 and stenosis from a ligament. My left leg is also weak. Physical therapy can help. I also had steroid injections, which did not help. It is important to have proper support for your lurabar when you are sitting. I use a lurabar roll (McKenzie) which I take with me to use wherever I go.

Thanks again all,

I sounRAB like I need to see a different doctor that will do something beside write a script for PT.
