Do English people look up to American culture?

when Steven Gerrard left court his fans were chanting Rocky Rocky, in reference to his punching....why weren't they chanting the name of an English boxer?
like Henry Cooper or Hatton. Do English people not think they're any good or famous?

Coming from Australia, we are suppose to be English... well the Queens head is on our money anyway. But everything is influenced by America these days, I don't look up to it, or admire it, or wish I was an American, its just the way it is.

Because Rocky is an internationally known boxer icon -- the movies are popular worldwide. Just like when I say teenage wizard, most people, no matter where they live, think Harry Potter.

It has nothing to do with English people looking up to American culture. I'm an American, and I guess that although it's not your fault (you were just asking a question), it doesn't really do much for America's global reputation of being ignorant and self-important :P

Hope I helped (though I bet you could have figured it out yourself if you really tried)

Edit: Oh yeah, and you do know that Rocky is a fictional character, right?
