Dizziness From Neck And Shoulder Strain?

A couple of weeks ago I picked up some heavy furniture and I believe may have strained the muscles and/or my rotator cuff in my right shoulder. It started to get better and then I think I strained it again lifting a heavy Dutch oven at a family gathering.

I do not have access to medical care now until after the New Year, so am resting it and rotating the shoulder as I do just for the osteo-arthritis to keep it limber but have noticed in the last few days my neck muscles feel like a whiplash injury and I get dizzy changing my head position like looking down to write.

Any advice on how I can get rid of this? Christmas is coming up and I need to be back to my old self as much as possible.

Thanks!

Lindaru :)

Hey Lindaru,
It sounds like you might have a disc problem in your neck or upper spine, especially with the dizziness and "whiplash" symptoms. That can happen with the heavy lifting you have described.
Ice or heat the area (whichever feels best) and take anti-inflammatory meds (advil, tylenol, etc.) and get to your doctor as soon as you can. An MRI may be in order.
I hope this helps. I have read several of your posts on here and they are always so helpful and encouraging. :)

Hi, Mo . . . I find you and many others on here also very helpful and encouraging. Thank you for responding.

My husband agrees that if I am not all better by the time my doctor comes back after the new year, I should get an MRI done. We have just checked on our own to make sure there is no noticeable bulging or displacement, and if there is, it would hopefully be very minor.

The dizziness is easing up a bit but then I have been resting and I already take up to 2,000 milligrams of Tylenol per day for other things (as you probably already know). Could never do aspirin or the anti-inflammatories because of the stomach upset and bleeding.

You take care!

Lindaru ;)
