DIY creak fix

So My bronze G1 creaked... drove me crazy! Whenever I pressed the bottom right of the screen (above the power off button) it made the WORSE creaking sound.
I looked online, and apparently it is caused by a little "nub" or line extending vertically between screen and the hinges.
They suggested that I cut it with a razor blade... which I was afraid to do.

Anyways my wife covered it with tape and and now the sound is gone.

Cool!

Filed down that lil deal....no more creaks.....ish was starting to get on my nerves. How you pay 200 for a phone and it makes a bunch of noise when handling it???? hahah

Didn't see this thread before. I fixed this issue when I first got the phone. I just put a small piece of clear tape on that corner. Can't even see the tape myself now.

I didn't file it down.

Here you go. On the 3/4 view shot, you'll notice a little rough area in the circle. That is where the little ridge was. I used an exacto blade and just ran it along there a couple of times until it was smoother out. It doesn't look smooth in this shot because of the harsh light(very bright flashlight). Really, you can't see it at all in real life. No creak for me now.

Do the newer versions not creak? I smashed my first G1 on accident, and when i got my new one i didn't notice any creaks....also i saw the guy in the video flinging open his G1 and slamming it shut....does that hurt the phone? I always keep my hand on the screen and let it out gently i never flick the screen out

Ok guys. Mine creaked the exact same way. Here's a quick DIY fix that take no time at all, and it pretty much undetectable. Just in case you don't feel comfortable with shaving anything down.

What I did was take a piece of felt that has a sticky back to it, and cut a thin rectangle out, and then mounted it to the inside lip of the chin over the call and home keys and then another small one next to it. I'm uploading a video as we speak. I'll edit this when it's done.

Here is a pic for clarification with the felt highlighted

Any hard fast movement of an item with any amount of heft to it, coming to a sudden, abrupt stop against another item with any amount of heft to it, will eventually wear down both parts, generally the one with lesser heft being damaged sooner/faster. I wouldn't trust some guy in some video to decide what's "safe" for my $200 phone.

I've been known to flip it shut a time or two, but gentler is always safer. That said, how long do you want it to last in the first place before you *need* a replacement?

I still can't find this plastic strip, and my phone creaks on the bottom right too - to be honest it really doesnt bother me that much, I may try and stick something on the back where you can't see it to pad it out a couple of millimeters.

Did they tell you anything about sending your phone in 1st, And they they will ship you out a new one? or it's the other way around?
