DIY creak fix

I want to get my g1 replace but who knows if I'll get another one with creaking or worse problems. So maybe I'll just wait till g2.
 
I would agree about the OCD meds for the creak if it wasn't for that fact that the creak is so bad and loud that it interferes with my ability to hear the person I'm talking to on the phone. Of course holding my phone perfectly still next to my ear or using a headset solves the problem, but I don't always have that option...
 
I just talked to customer service about the creaking, also my screen feels loose. They said they are going to ship me a new one. =) Hopefully a non creaking one.
 
I've had my g1 for a few days now, and at first I thought the screen was creaking, but after taking a closer look I found it is actually the back cover on the phone that is creaking.. it doesn't do it when the keyboard is out, but when it is closed if I push on the cover by the camera button it creaks a bit.. it has a very small amount of "give" to it that allows the noise.. am I just being really picky at this point? Anybody else have this?
 
I had that problem too. What I did to fix it was doubled up a small piece of scotch tape. like the size of one of the keys on the phone. Then put it on the battery cover where it seems to be making the noise. That seemed to do it for me.
 
i just bought a hard case off of ebay that has 3 parts to it. my phone creaked very loud before i had the case on. Now i put the case on and it does not creak anymore.
 
This did it for me. No more OCD meds...

Man! It is such a small thing in design but creates such a freaking pain. I also noticed that this took care of the uneven sides (the screen wasn't flush with the back of the phone i.e. if you rolled your finger over the side, you will feel a bump) for me.

Hope it helps those that didn't notice that film strip. Also just like mentioned earlier, simply put some cushion between the the sliding screen and the handset (right above the "MENU" key, on the inside)................Great Post.....[:-)
 
Phone Was PERFECT before this.

So I got hit by a slow moving car while crossing the street (was dark, rainy, and he was getting out of parking after dropping a noob) My phone was in the butt pocket and I fell it it. Doom did not fall on me as I know it.
First I did was head into Dunkin Donuts and checked my phone for damages.

Open/Close was very rough and grainy. I had smooshed the screen, fixed by reversing the "smooshing" motion my butt had applied. Lifted the screen a little. Then I noticed the dreaded creak: Screen closes to tightly.Fix: With screen closed, pivot the screen counter-clockwise. Wamo Fixed, but before this I had the Invisible Shield on. I got mad and took the body off. And what do you know the next day i drop the phone while getting out of the car.

Lesson learned: Oh. No lesson learned. After fixing my phone, I noticed that I scraped my ankle cap, exposing the bone. Gross.
 
Can someone please describe the creak to me in better detail? I must just not even be able to recreate it when trying... ... ...?

my creak went away then came back. How i dont know. So i took it back and my new one is going on a few days now squeak free. In fact the screen feels more solid when closed...when open it has a slight wobble. But its better than creeking.

I think the nub that people are shaving off actually belongs there. It appears that it helps keep the screen centered while closed. The people who claim that theres doesnt have a little nub probably need to clean their glasses.
