DIY creak fix

Man, I wasn't noticing the "crek" so bad till I started reading about it. But this fix worked
Like a charm! Much better than gluing stuff to my new phone. No more creak. I tried to take
a pre-op pic but to no avail...couldn't get a good shot. But with an exacto..1 or 2 swipes and your
creak free!!

Open source hardware and now open source hardware fixes (lol)...you gotta love it!

My creak ended up coming back and screen got extra wobbly. So I exchanged it for a new one. It felt solid for the first 2 weeks and now the screen wobbliness is back. I think it's bound to happen. Thinking about doing that mod mentioned in the other post when i was searching the '4 in 1' fix.

OK. I noticed on the bottom right of screen by the hinge, there's a little thin strip of plastic that appears to serve absolutely no purpose at all. Possibly a remnant from the molding process, idk.

This is the piece(at least on mine) that's rubbing against the plastic of the screen part. I took an exacto blade and just ran it down that strip to remove it.

Perfect. Not one bit of creak now and you can't see what I've done to it with the naked eye.

One issue that was bugging me no longer does. See pic for location. That's after the shave and a haircut.

Yea this is basically why I feel returning my unit for a more solid one would be a waste of time. I think eventually all the G1's will have a wobbly screen and/or the creak (mine arrived with both FYI). The only difference is my "honeymoon period" was very short lived lol (about the time of undoing the UPS packaging to opening the box, from there it was all downhill ).

At least this way I'll think twice about getting excited over an HTC Android device!

trimming the little ridge of plastic corrected my phones squeak problem. I'm pretty stoked because the squeaking seemed to be getting worse with time!

thanks that worked miracles, I substituted the felt with a strip of thick paper from a pack of gum (Orbit) and used to krazy glue to get it on and used a dark marker to color it

Great - it worked flawless...
My G1 was really firm and not moving at all. Creaky sound would come and go - it depended on my usage if I am using it longer (!?!) ... however creaky sound vanished ...

Very good fix!

Looks like amybe you had a piece of the plastic cover that came off the back part of the monitor that was factory sandwiched between the key board when you slide it up and peel that back part off, im thinking that maybe is just a piece that didnt rip off initally.

It wasn't a piece of the plastic film. It's a small little "lip" of plastic right there on that edge. I should have taken a pic before I removed it. Doh.

If you take your fingernail and push towards that hinge from the outside, there was a resistance for me. A little extra plastic that was part of the body molding. Look at it in bright light.

Yes. This is the shot before it was shaved... Mine looked the same - I just did not take the picture... Razor blade fixed the problem - however my G1 was not making much of the creaky noise - but it did bother me.
