District 9?

WOW..!

Thats all I can say about this film - truly blew my mind!

I wasnt sure what to expect but it was brilliant! I felt so sorry for the "Prawns" and the main character Wikus...!

Brilliant film and I would recommend it to sci-fi fans everywhere and to anyone who likes a good drama!

:D

The best movie I've seen this year, by far. Beautiful storyline but still extremely entertaining (your ass cheeks will clench onto the cinema seats during some of the twists and turns). A truly excellent blend of humour, love, tragedy, realistically portrayed sci-fi, action, and dusted off to perfection with an endearing poignancy and vuneribility within the character's story. Also, the main actor should be nominated for Best Actor at the Oscar's purely for that pure and raw performance in District 9. He should be nominated, but he won't be because it's kind of a blockbuster and wasn't released at the right time or whatever. Anyway, yes...movie. of. the. year. (imo)

Just got back from seeing it and I also thought it was excellent. The effects in it are superb and put most Hollywood films to shame, particularly the photo-realistic 'prawns'. And they cost a fraction of what the effects in Tranformers 2 or 2012 cost.

Great plot (even if it does borrows from quite a few other scifi films) and very well acted. Agree that the hesitancy of the lead at the beginning is part of the character. He's a fairly weak-willed and cowardly bureaucrat who has been pushed into a position of power through nepotism.

I watched this last night and I have to say despite my original thoughts (based on the trailer) I actually really enjoyed it.

You can tell theres going to be a sequel though. :)

loved it! after being told not to go near it! thought it was so refreshing! without the americanesq theme! (you know what i mean everything set in the states etc)

I got the feeling there might be a sequel. Just because they named District 10 as the new area and there was a lot of empahsis on the 'returning in 3 years'. I thought they might be setting the scene for the next movie.

I enjoyed it, however I advise anyone going to see it to go with the opinion that its big and dumb. Perfect popcorn fodder. Im still blown away by the effects - they were astounding!

I saw this the other day and although the documentary start got me interested, ultimately I found it very disappointing. Way too many plot holes and unanswered questions. The latter I found particularly annoying because the documentary at the start gave me the impression that some of these questions (why did the aliens come to earth, why are they so disorganised etc) would be answered, instead they became even more confused. The sudden about turn in the main character was also unconvincing.

I'm just not sure how this film was intended. Too many holes to be intelligent, but not enough action to be a dumb popcorn flick. It felt like the film was trying to tick both boxes but didn't manage either.

And yes, the lead character's South African/Scouser accent was off-putting.

What's wrong with unanswered questions? Have you no imagination whatsoever? There was enough information fed to the viewer to give him/her something to ponder over - far better than your average blockbuster where everything is neatly tied up with a nice ribbon.

Saw it earlier too, great film. Hope they dont get a huge Hollywood budget for the next film, they will probably turn it into something crappy with all the 'special effect' crap HW uses :P we want them to make it brilliant with less money i think :P Worked once, can work again

Went to see this last night, was ok, it was no aliens and the concern growing in sci fi movies in general i.e like the up coming avatar is why are more and more adopting the "power suit". However nothing really wrong with this movie, dont think it has a rewatchability factor but glad i saw it. Dont know how scousers felt about it, as a fellow scouser I felt the swearing was very funny in moments in shouldnt have been. Fookin hell fookin hell, it did take a bit away from the impact of the film sadly.

Its an exellent movie, the best ive seen this year so far, much better than inglorious,it isnt a horror although there are some gory scenes, its starts as a kind of documentary and becomes pure action with a good story,i felt so sorry for the prawns, all they want 2 do is go home.
