District 9?

I read that he ad libbed the lines during the eviction scenes - not the whole movie! but it was IMDB so it could be wrong.

The whole subtext around apartheid really makes this a massively powerful film. I think that is why I found it less funny - I was caught up in that part. My fianc

Saw this film today; really good to not have any Americans in an alien film for once, and quite a different take on the genre too. I agree the actor was very good.

Watched this yesterday and really, really enjoyed it. Was very different for an alien film and the documentary style added to it greatly for myself. I found myself forgetting that it was a film and feeling like it was all completely real.

It wasn't actually the word f**k, he used the alternative Fook, it's apparently a common alternative in South Africa and not as offensive sounding.

Not exactly the most enthralling of afternoons at the cinema. Didn't go much on District 9 6/10 rating from me.

As for days of Summer, only slightly more interesting.

Just seen it- I have a few minor niggles with plot holes and unanswered questions, but overall, I really enjoyed it.

It's shot a bit differently to most hollywood films. It starts almost like a documentary, and I thought it was going to be another cloverfield (which I didn't like), but it picks up after the first 20 minutes or so.

The effects are good as well, though pretty gruesome in parts, and as someone else said, it almost seems like a very subtle black comedy in parts, though not sure if that is intentional or not?

Either way, I'd recommend it.

I liked most of it, the ending was

a bit flat and just guns and explosions and pretty standard action movie fare. Not that I'm opposed to that, and they did it well, but the feel of the movie changed for me.

I hope they do a sequel.

Disney's Up and Year One are out too but are only VHS so DVD should follow soon. Russian DVD of 500 Days of Summer is out too. Ill need to sit down lol. Who knows what else will be coming out.

Russia tenRAB to get quite a few films early it seems. Then again theres lots of films they dont get until months and months after we get them.

Just saw this film and certainly would not recommend it to anyone.

Annoying "mockumentary" style, even more annoying South African accents. Silly and very simple story, full of plot holes, over use use of nasty violence, way too long. All in all totally pointless.

I may go back to the cinema tonight to warn people going to see it not to waste their time and money.

Apart from that it's fine.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the film.

However it left me wanting to know more -
Where had they come from? Why? If they were so technologically advanced why didn't they make more use of their weapons instead of allowing themselves to be herded into District 9?

One of the better films of the year so far 9/10

I think that was because they were sort of like an ant colony. Only some of them were intelligent- the rest were stupid and sold their weapons for cat food. That's why they were aimless and leaderless on the ship- because most of them were drones.

Perhaps the intelligent main character alien (forgot his name) was trying to do something with the command module when it fell out at the start, i.e. get the ship working again- which explains why he was living in a shack on top of the command module and why the rest of the aliens were left on board leaderless. So he was then trying to get enough of that fuel together so they could leave.

Hope that helps.

ahh ,but didn't the part of the ending

where the wife received the 'rose' and then they show one of the aliens holding it as in "you know who that is gave it to her'.

I thought that part was touching but a bit devastating. Certainly a sequel will be in order..
