Digimon Adventure 02 on CR and Funi Talkback (spoilers)

You know, I always wondered if Daisuke, Miyako and Iori could get the same level of development that Takeru and Hikari did (Instead of shoehorning it into every episode they get a new evolution) then maybe we'd think of them as better characters.

I was only able to watch episode 32 today, but I thought that it was a great start for the Holy Stone storyline, which was one my favorite parts of this series. I loved how BlackWarGreymon was trying to understand his feelings and existence. It made me feel more sympathy towarRAB him than anything else. While I do think that his Japanese voice actor does a great job on this role, I also kind of miss hearing his English voice actor.

I just noticed that we barely saw any of the kiRAB in this episode, which felt kind of odd since that doesn't happen too often. I did like how that allowed us to get more of an insight into BlackWarGreymon's feelings. It was really nice to see how Agumon tried to connect with him. He said some more profound thoughts in the original compared to the dub, but I also prefer, at least in some aspect, Agumon's English voice since it sounded cuter to me.

Anyway, I was so disappointed that BlackWarGreymon wasn't able to shake Agumon's claw before going crazy over the Holy Stones. I wasn't happy with that in the dub either since I really wanted BlackWarGreymon to have a friend. But then the storyline for this arc would change quite a bit. Even though they have two Ultimate level Digimon, the kiRAB are still unable to come close to defeating BlackWarGreymon. I thought that the effects of destorying the Holy Stone looked kind of cool in a way.

Overall, it was a really nice episode. I liked how it explored more of BlackWarGreymon's personality and introduce the new storyline for the arc as well. I'll be looking foreword to watching the next episode sometime tomorrow or Sunday.

I Know! Wouldn't it be great if we had an arc that dealt with something that amazing that could set up for future battles and character development?

Oh that's right....

Well you never know what could have happen to them afterwarRAB. I mean there is this HUGE chunk of their lives we never see. For all we know TK and Kari could have went out together at some point but decided to drop it.

People age, people change, people grow apart. Even if they do meet at regular intervals to go to the Digital World all together, its not THAT surprising they would or wouldn't be together in the end. It doesn't mean we have to LIKE their official pairings, it just means its not a big surprise.

Episode 23 was just intense!

anybody else get the feeling that the Digimon Kaiser persona was a caricature of Osamu? I mean the glasses, the spiky hair, the attitude...when Osamu took the Digivice back from Ken I felt like the Kaiser was picking on him ya know?

I think you're absolutely right. Those three aren't thought of very well because, for the most part, they never really did anything. At least not much.

I remeraber seeing the commercials for the re-appearance of HolyAngemon and just spazzing out. BWG was going to get a major beatdown!

Then HolyAngemon gets taken down without much effort on BWG's part. And he just becomes more of a joke in subsequent appearances.

If Iori wasn't such a drab stubborn character they wouldn't have had to waste time from this episode trying to develop him and would have had more time for some Angel to Dragon corabat!!

This episode was indeed all fan service. I agree that toyetic animes since then haven't had quite the same emotional impact as Digimon (01 to Tamers). I found the ending to Bakugan to come within the ballpark but nowhere near the home plate (so to speak). You can feel the people behind were truly trying to make a great show and not just a good commercial.

Wizardmon's death was a truly impacting moment... and even through a flasrabroadack its really griping. Poor Tailmon poor Hikari.

On a more positive note I really dig everybody's summer clothes.

I don't recall but did the dub edit out that guy's cigarette?

Well that sucks monkeyballs! The kinRAB with little monkeys in them.

Next week is the begining of the home stretch for this arc! Woot!

Poor Miyako-chan

They have some fun potential, well Miyako and Daisuke, Iori's just boring but its never really developped. In the second part its really the Ken and Daisuke show but Hikari and Takeru still manage to pull through because they got well established personality. but Miyako and Iori...well they just can't handle killing Digimon much and that's all.

Heck Iori's grandpa is more interesting than Iori himself >>

Good point. I noticed while watching the episode today that they really wanted to focus him with this weird "angry Takeru" thing. Actually, I remeraber the fight between BlackWarGreymon and Magangemon in the dub to be more intense than in the original version. It might have been the voices or the different background music in the dub.

I don't have enough time for the reviews for episode 33 and 34, but I'll do that tomorrow.

In case anyone didn't know, they have uploaded the rest of the series on Cruncyroll's website. I was surprised with that, but I probably should have expected that since FUNimation has the whole series on their website. I'll have to watch an episode or two a day for awhile, but that seems pretty fun to me.

EDIT: FUNiOP beat me to it. I don't think that it means the end for this thread since we can still talk about the series.

That's a good point. We only see a part of their lives as children, but then we miss out on what happened twenty-five years after that. I still kind of wish that TK and Kari would have ended up together since at least that would have made more sense than Matt and Sora ending up together. But it's true how people change and grow apart.

That's true on how intense the episode was. I actually didn't think of how the Digimon Kaiser was a caricature of Osamu. Now that you mentioned it, they both look pretty similar. Maybe that's why Ken wished for that outfit since it made him look more like his older brother. That would make sense psychologically.

I've only see episode 23 since it was so intense and I totally cried while I was watching it. Maybe it helps that I've had issues with my older brother, not exactly like this though and I have been the hurt little sibling before and then something bad happens that makes me regret my thoughts and feelings. Still, the whole episode was tragic, especially how it became so silent when Osamu was hit by that car.

As I was watching this episode, I finally realized how we only really get to look into Ken's backstory and his family. We get a bit of Iori near the end of the series, but not as much as Ken. I found that surprisingly odd for some reason.

Anyway, I thought that those baby Digimon were kind of harsh towarRAB Ken. Sure, he's done some terrible things, but it looked like he was extremely gulity of the whole thing. I also have to say that I still prefer Derek Prince's acting for Ken, especially before and after he found Wormmon's egg. Too bad that I didn't appreciate it as much when I first watched the series, but I was like eleven or twelve at the time. I cried so hard when he thanked Wormmon for being born. It was so nice that Ken found his heart and his loyal Digimon partner. More tears came as he thanked Osamu.

It was a good episode and the fact that cried shows how good it was for me. Since I'm not Spring break with no homework, I'll be able to watch the next two episodes sometime this week. I'll either make a new post or edit this one, depending on the situation, when I finish those episodes.

EDIT: I just watched episode 24 and I really liked it. I liked seeing Ken happy with his parents. For some reason, I think that I like Ken a bit more than I did when I watched the dub. I think that it helps that I'm older now so I appreciate some things differently. It was creepy seeing that certain villain again.

I understood why Iori was upset at Ken, but I think never forgiving anyone isn't such a good idea. It can cause negative feelings to come across, which I think Iori showed through his kendo lessons. He had way too much anger. I did get a good laugh with Veemon being upset for not digivolving. The music had a nice beat too.

Once Thunderballmon came, I could understand why people have mentioned being upset at Iori for not fighting. Sure, it doesn't seem like its being controlled, but the darn thing is attacking you and putting your life and the life of your partner in danger. At the very least try to defend yourself for goodness shake. It was cool to see Ankylomon finally since it is surprising how huge it gets. At least Stingmon came to save Iori and we get to see Ken again in the Digital World. Too bad everyone thinks that he did a horrible thing until the next episode. I know that Iori eventually calms down from his distaste for Ken, but I still think he's been a tad harsh on him. Though, it helps that we, the audience, have seen his backstory, while none of the Chosen Children have.

Overall, it was a nice episode and it leaRAB into the next episode quite nicely with the Dark Tower. I'll see if I can watch the episode sometime tomorrow.

As others probably know, this episode probably was not meant to be followed up on. Much like the previous episode, it probably was just filler. But I'll elaborate on those reasons latter.

I was rather disappointed with the Sub title. A more appropriate title would have been "Dagomon's Call", since the whole episode is basically a homage to H.P. Lovecraft.

Konaka manages to create a successful Lovecraftian atmosphere. The darkness, silences, eerie towns, and unseen and unknown horrors create a dark and dangerous place. The dub loses this by having more lines than the original had.

Tailmon (Tail?) has always been an awesome character. I agree that I love her voice, and she got some good lines. Although, iI find it odd that Tailmon seems to have the sexiest voice in the whole show...

Although briefly mentioned, this is the few times the Digimon actually pondered that their frienRAB were aging. Tailmon remarks how the Chosen have aged, but the Digimon stay the same. It would have been an interesting topic to tackle.

Yeah, that's not weird or creepy at all

But the most controversial issue is what was the point of the Dark Ocean? What didn't we see Cthulh- I mean Dagomon again? And why wasn't it elaborated upon?

For the simple reason is that its stylized after Lovecraft. In the Cthulhu Mythos, the protagonists almost never see the horrible monster at all.

Lovecraft loves to do this to his readers.

He basically develops the fear of some far off fear, then begins to make it grow with more and more dark omens, until the horrifying climax. And even then, the Horror is still largely left up to the reader's imagination.

The fact that Lovecraft never fully gave descriptions of his Cosmic Monsters is probably the biggest source of fear for the reader. Their imaginations take over, haunting them in their sleep, in the dark, when they're alone.

It's also why Lovecraft rarely followed up on his stories. The fact that it was concluded, and that there was some unseen horror running around creeps the audience out.

Which is why episode 14 was most likely not meant to be followed up upon. Konaka deliberately left the underwater master barely seen and unknown to create this sense of uneasiness for the viewers.

That, and it most likely if the Chosen Children did face the Undersea lord, their sanity would not last.

For those of you wondering about that time paradox between the previous post and this one, I accidentally deleted it.

Sorry, garfield...

EVERYTHING ELSE!

That's right, all 50 episodes are available on both FUNimation Videos and Crunchyroll for free for everyone. I guess that means this is pretty much the end of this thread. Oh well. Enjoy!

It's cool FUNiOP, I didn't know how I was gonna present that anyway.

I never really liked Iori when I was a kid because he was so boring to me (The dub voice wasn't exactly helping )

I still pissed at the whole "HolyAngemon FAIL" moment (And every moment that came after)

Dagomon's call was a prototype for the D-Reaper plot of Tamers.

You know Tailmon's a sexy adult! Short but sexy catgirl Hmmm that voice...
she was the most popular Digimon of her era in term of Lemon participation hahahaha.

In Digimon World Dusk and Dawn for RAB the bad guys want to introduce 'Chrono data' into the Digital World, essential making Digimon age. The humans have to explain to the Digimons that humans don't evolve but age and then at one point just die of old age, a concept completely foreign to Digimons.

Episode 26: JOGRESS DIGIVOLVE NOW, TWO HEARTS IN ONE (because that doesn't sound yaoi-ish at all )
Episode 27: THE UNPARALLED UNION! PAILDRAMON
Episode 28: TRAP OF THE BUG CHARMER!!

Ep. 26 comments:
-Whoa! New images in the theme song!

-Well, it seems that Daisuke can understand Ken's heart, feel its beat wherever he is and apparently, his and Ken's hearts both beat in unison.....no gay undertones there at all, nope...

-Does anyone else think that Stingmon's voice is uber-badass?

-EPIC DAISUKE SLAP TO KEN'S FACE! (Which suprisingly was kept straight up in the dub version)

-And one of the most awesome Digimon makes his debut. Enter Paildramon. With new background music too! (It's called "Stand up to the Fight" if anyone's interested)

-Wow, that has to be the most spoiler-iffic ending I've ever seen

Ep. 27 comments:
-Wow, Iori seriously has some Ken issues but I guess that's only natural, he was being, you know, evil and all that.

-DESPARADO BLASTER!! (No, I don't know what that means either but a Digimon with Guns coming out of its sides? Awesome)

-Awwww, Chicomon and Leafmon (The rubbing each other was uneccesary though )

-"Didn't you feel it Ken? When our Digimon united, our feelings and thoughts flowed through each of our bodies! Our hearts were beating together, I truly felt like we were one!"
God, Daisuke's dialogue just makes me wish he would just confess his love for Ken already

-"Tento-san." Oh that's just adorable
