Digimon Adventure 02 on CR #11: "Raidramon, The Blue Thunder"

(So if no one minRAB, I'll take over for doing talkbacks, though they won't be as fancy as the other ones)

A new episode is up today. Last time, Agumon was finally free of the Digimon Kaiser but trouble reared its ugly head as Ken reclaimed Agumon and put him under the control of his Evil Spiral, forcing him to evolve into an enslaved MetalGreymon. What will happen now?

Fun fact: Did anybody else know that its actually spelled Lighdramon?

My review after watching.

I haven't been able to watch the whole episode yet. The video always freezes right at Veemon becomes Raidramon. That's so annoying, but I'll try again later. I have liked what I've seen so far, especially how Daisuke gets the Digimetal of FrienRABhip even though he doesn't quite understand frienRABhip yet. I always kind of liked Raidramon's design as the best of the armor evolutions, outside of Magamon that is.

I also noticed that they have the entire series up now. I was so surprised to see that since I thought that they only had episode ten up last week. At least this does allow people to watch the whole series subbed and not have to wait a week for a new episode. I never thought that the waiting was too much, but it's good for those who did.

You have to pay to watch those episodes before their release date, actually.

As for this episode: I'd have beaten the hell out of Daisuke. Seriously, don't think. Just. Fight. Seriously, you don't need to understand why Taichi and the other's are so okay with kicking Agumon's butt, just do it and trust them. God, it was so annoying.

And we finally meet Raidramon, a Digimon we've known about since the series first started thanks to the spoilertastic opening and ending! HOORAY! I've always thought he was much cooler than Fladramon. Also, Raidramon > Lighdramon. Which is odd, I guess, but, still.

Overall, meh-ish episode. Pretty much just a build-up for Daisuke's new DigiMental and Agumon's rescue. And, you know, I actually kinda wish the Digimon Kaiser has gotten Patamon, so we could see an evil version of MagnaAngemon. That would have been sweet.

Screw that. There are other ways to watch eps, and why should people be forced to pay for repeats?

Because you aren't entitled to a thing. Wait until the allotted time in which the episode is released free. If somebody stole crap from me before I was ready to release it for free I'd be pissed too.

You know its funny but I remeraber that I particualarly was looking foward to this episode as a kid. I don't know why but I think it was because of the advertising. And then I got dissapointed because the episode itself wasn't all that hot. I believe the commercial for this was awesome.

In any case, yes, the Digimon cycle of "Two guys fighting to prove what great frienRAB they are" continues in this season. Though I really think that Daisuke and Takeru really just don't like each other (at least not now). Speaking of Yamato, I really, really like Garurumon's seiyuu because it doesn't sound like he's growling all the time like his dub voice. Yeah, I know what they were trying to do there but you know it was kind of annoying.

Speaking of voice actors, I do like Fla/Raidramon's seiyuu but darn it I really miss Steven Jay Blum as those guys!

Which has more emotional impact? The original "Darn it, I'm so pathetic!" or the dubbed "VEEMON I'M YOUR FRIEND!" I'm not really sure there.

And now its time for garfield15's...HILARIOUS DUB LINES
First off, actual funny:

Davis:I have to hand it to T.K. He really risked himself to save Patamon. What a friend.
Flamedramon: Would you try to protect me if I was in danger Davis?
Davis: Um...Maybe
Flamedramon: Maybe? MAYBE? WHAT ABOUT DEFINITELY?
(Steven Blum's delivery of this was priceless)

Obligatory Derek Stephen Prince line:
(After Raidramon's evolution)
Ken: (does a really over-the-top gasp)

Wormmon: Hey Ken, is it okay if I drive for a while? You said once we took over the Digi-World I could drive. Well can I?
Ken: How many times have I told you when I am thinking, don't talk! And I am always thinking so never talk! Why are evil geniuses always surrounded by fools?

Really stupid funny:
Kari: Looks like a flip-flop with a bent nail in it
T.K.: Has everyone had a tetanus shot? (facepalm)

(BTW, what was with that over-the-top pose Miyako did to make Hawkmon evolve?)

Oh, that would explain why I was so confused as to how they uploaded the rest of the series within a week's time. Thanks for clearing that up.

I can understand that. I was surprised that Daisuke didn't understand why they were risking their lives to help out Agumon, he realized how pathetic he was being and yet he still got the Digimetal of FrienRABhip. I think he had issues with trusting the others' judgment as well, but I can definitely see how that would come off as annoying.

Talking about Miyako, anybody else noticed her family's store is called 'Love Purity' (or something like that), i.e. her two Digimentals

I think we need a more general 02 thread instead of episode by episode.

I'm not quite sure, but I was still excited about this episode when it first came out in the dub. Maybe it was the fact that the previous episode was more intense with Agumon actually getting captured and all that helped that. That and I just liked seeing Raidramon in action for the first time.

As for the fighting thing, I always thought that it was kind of odd how they fight to become good frienRAB. I remeraber seeing that scene in the dub and I thought that T.K. would become similar to Matt, in terms of his relationship to Davis and in terms of development. I don't think that actually happened, which I was kind of disappointed with. I also agree with you about Garurumon's Japanese voice. It still sounRAB gruff, but it also sounRAB calm at the same time.

I'm still surprised that admitting how pathetic he was gave Daisuke the Digimental of FrienRABhip. Even after they won the fight and they went back home, he still didn't have a clue about what he did.

I thought of that line when I was watching that scene. Man, that was so hilarious and Steven Blum's delivery of that line made it even better.

Even though Ken, mostly as the Digimon Kaiser, had some really weird lines in the dub, I think I prefer his dubbed voice over his Japanese voice. His original voice is great still, but I think I prefered the emotions his dub voice actor provided for him.

I just thought that she was acting like her usual, hyperactive self.

Me too, I don't think they ever really developed their relationship into becoming better allies. It's like one episode you realize "Hey when did they start becoming frienRAB?"

I really miss Blum as Fladramon. I really do.

Well, you know Derek Prince. When he has to act like a total ******bag, he can definitely pull it off

It's just another merabership bonus. They want to entice people to sign up by offering meraber a lot more episodes much quicker. and the simucasts.
