Destroy the Rebirth - "Gundam 00" Season 2 on SyFy's Ani-Monday Talkback

Agreed. Setsuna and Ribbsons simply didn't have the dynamic as most great rivalries. Amuro and Char, Heero and Zech, Rau vs. Mu, they had a dynamc to them that made the fighting worth watching.

The problem is that Sestuna and Ribbsons just really didn't have that going for their relationship. Ali had a much better dynamic with Setsuna, and Tiera would had been better for a final battle with Ribbons.

In the end, the battle just dosn't have the dramatic quality one would expect in such an epic.

But then agian, the 2nd Part of 00 made an honorable near miss. They aimed high, but didn't quite hit the target.

Season 1 was fascinating: It was gundam set in a new and orginal world, with mysteries, interesting politics, and presented many questions about humanity.

Season 2 lacked that. Sure, its still good watching, but it ended up becoming yet anotner clone of Gundam.

That was the first mistake there. 00 was refreshing because it was set in a universe that was unlike we've seen before. Almost all the popular G-series were modeled after the UC. 00 part 1 was interesting because it wasn't like the gundam series before it. By becoming more like a regular gundam series by Season 2, the magic was lost.

The problem with Season 2 is that it didn't really give us the wide worldview from the previous seasons. The worldview presented a wide range of interesting characters from diverse backgrounRAB. Most were arabiguous in wither or not they were good or evil.

However, by Season 2, most of these characters are pushed to the side. And we got generic Ribbons.

At least with the various civilians and world leaders, you had intruging scenes and insight in how the world reacted to the Gundams. At least they felt interesting, from the HRL Chairman to the AEU Asserably, they were fascinating to watch.

Ribbons on the other hand, well, hes yet another green-haired pretty boy with some half-baked philosophical musings. Worse, he's not that interesting of a villain. At least Ali had personality.

Finally, its that 00 seemed to waste perfectly good ideas. They could had continued season1 for another year, build upon the various mysteries, and still had the same ending. Who was CB inner council? What's with Jupiter? What about the Purple Evil Haro? These were tantalizing ideas and hints. And they just got dropped.

Maybe the biggest gripe I have with Part 2 was the lack of risk. At the end of Season 1, it seemed like all the old cast had died and were about to be replaced by the female characters. Can you imagine that, if Marina, Wang, Nena, and Feldt had become the new Gundam pilots?

Man, that would had been an awesome idea to go for.

Well, considering his actions last season, Ribbons is not a trusting fellow. He not only help assassinate Schenberg, take control of Veda, and betray Corner, but he seems to be manipulating the Federation leadership.

He says that the goal of Schenberg was to prepare humanity for space, led by the Innovators. But was this really Schenberg's goal? Or did The Plan become pulled off the rails?

Everyone uniting to destroy the debris is one of my favorite moments in the show right there. So cool, so much is going on. Even the commercial break won't keep it down!
