"Old days?"

You mean they're not like that now?

For whatever reason, my DVR steadfastly refused to record the last two weeks of 00 because the TV Guide kept slightly altering the title. So now I'm stuck waiting for Bandai to put it on Youtube...

Yeah, that's the interesting aspect of the action--the battles tend to favor intensity with low nurabers, rather than favoring superior nurabers. I think this helps focus the action and makes things very exciting, when executed well. This is material outside of what's said in the show I believe, but the Ahead is basically about equivalent to a third generation Gundam (i.e. the Gundams of season one). And that's the Ahead, discounting unique models like the Gadessa and Garazzo. The tech gap between the two sides was close enough to cause real problems for the relatively small Ptolemy crew, which is why O Riser's introduction is so well timed. As massively powerful as 00 has become in the show, its arrival is a relief and a very necessary escalation of the ongoing conflict.

You do have a good point. The Fed seems to have a control on the media, to the point of deceving the public. Yet, it does not mean a force like the A-laws is going to be totally unrestrained. Sure, massacres can be covered up (to an extent), but start using Superweapons and people are going to say "WTF!".

But who would know? Consider how much of the average person's news comes from the media. That can include bias, altered facts or stuff not being covered entirely. A-Laws purpose is to very brutally unify all humanity into the new Federation and they will seemingly shown no restraint in hiding the facts from the masses to ensure the average joe doesn't become another person they need to bump off. In that respect, the show seems to be making a relavent point about asking questions and doing your own research. Katharon shows that some people are aware, but they're clearly the minority and the average citizen sees Katharon as evil terrorists instead of freedom fighters.

"There is nothing more stupid than dying for a standard of living...unless its dying for someone else's standard of living." - Jerry Pournelle and Larry Niven.

So the Alaws also are using their Evil Tachimokas to massacre everyone, including the civilians? Great plan dudes.

Yeah, I'm sure no one is going to think the images were faked either. I'm sure the civilians on the Elevator is going to collaborate the Fed's version. Wait, what?

True.

However, I'm not just talking about the Public here. The Regular Military and Politicians of the Federation are going to wonder why their own forces are using nukes to accomplish their peacekeeping duties. The rest of the Federation military doesn't seem to know fully about the A-laws actions. And the component governments of the Federation is going to wonder whats up.
