Derren Brown Live: Hero at 30,000 feet, C4 10pm

Keelboots, are you saying you don't believe any claims people have made who say they saw audience members at his tour acting suspiciously and/or going back stage? You outright deny that on the basis that it's unnecessary for his tricks?

Or are you suggesting that these observations are correct, but those people were not actually stooges, just members of the public somehow coerced into doing what they did for Derren?

Or.. you could watch the scene in question. ;)

Matt is in a taxi being driven by an actor. This isn't hidden from us at all. He says "You wouldn't catch me going on the London Eye that's for sure.. health risk" to the taxi driver, so he is making small talk about a London land mark.. he knows he is in London.

Again, they're not hiding that from us.

So I'm thinking the petrol station stunt was performed while Matt was in London for the purposes of the show.

Regarding the petrol station itself, I was about to even speculate it was already closed at point of filming and the production team hired the site for a day or something.. seems to be a lack of items on the shelves, lots of boxes of tissues for some reason, but the prices on the sign outside are different which makes me think it was possibly still trading.

i was once on a plane and they asked if there was a dr on board.. guy who was on his first few months of medical studies charged to the front to help...not much of a panic as a woman had fainted. he held her hand for 30 mins..job done!

If even a fraction of those quotes are genuine, the world clearly contains a lot of saps who'll lap up anything DB throws at them.

Which is depressing in more ways than one.

Eggshell - what you describe is symptoamtic of what I'm trying and probably failing to explain.

Basically what we are dealing with here is a quite different definition of what is real and what is not to the standard definition that the majority of us go by. If somebody questions the reality of what they have seen in this show, Keelboots tells them to use their imagination !

Well if he/she wants to call you out for being hypocritical then I think they've got exactly what they wanted.

But pray, what do you think hypnotism is then ?

There is a subtle difference between what is an 'accident' or a 'Bruce Willis' make believe film

The impression supposed to be given was that it was, for the so called 'victim' real, and was given the impression, and gave out the impression you can just lie on the tracks and quickly get out of the way.
Fine if the rigged set is doing 5mph on approach, but try it on the Main Line with a train doing 100 or 125, that takes a mile and half to stop.

How many times has it been seen on CCTV footage, near misses, then one day "thump" there is body parts flung over an area of about 200 - 300yarRAB, the Driver of the train in severe shock, and may never drive again, then there are the people who have to walk the area picking up all the bits of body, internal organs that are scattered about, then at the depot, removing whats left from under the train

THERE IS NEVER ANY EXCUSE FOR PLAYING ON THE RAILWAY.

Remember that kid who jumped over the barriers on the TV news fairly recently, escaped with a broken ankle, train was doing 70mph or more, now imagine had he been just a fraction of second later, or slower, mincemeat, and bits plastered all over the people / cars waiting there, and no doubt a few bits left for the crows and foxes to find

Funny, Clever / NO !

Yeah, we'll all be tuning in again just on the off-chance of being shown something amazing again. Or to see what nonsense he tries to pass off as real this time. Either way Channel 4 and Derren win, which is a bit sad.

It's a shame his shows are now becoming notorious, rather than things everyone talks about for the right reasons. I don't know about anyone else, but there wasn't one person on my Facebook who didn't think last night was anything but terrible and completely fake.

I think most people's suspension of disbelief was broken after the lottery fiasco, and his constant attempts to go bigger and better is just compounding the problem. He neeRAB to get back to basics, but the genie is out of the bottle now anyway.

I don't know why I'm wasting my time on this thead when you cone back with such a ridiculous comment with that twisted logic. I have never said every participant taking part in a stage show is really hypnotized and I'm sure many are not.
so, because you pretented to be hypnotized therefore all hypnotized people are pretending.
did you know hypnosis can be used as an anaesthetic? and a suitable subject can have a tooth extracted under hypnosis.
the next time you go to the dentist tell him you will not have any anaesthetic you will pretend to be hypnotized and you probably will not feel anything if you pretend really hard.

the difference between your experience and mine is-
I was not taking part in a stage show. I did not volunteer for a stage show so I could act out exhibitionistic fanfasies.
I was asleep in my bed and a hypnotist who gained access to my bedroom put me into a hypnotic trance while asleep by changing normal sleep into hypnotic sleep and into a hypnotic trance and I remained unconscious throughout.
the very small part I remembered the next morning seemed like dream.
also the hypnotists instructions I was not aware of another person talking to me. when I remembered this dream it was like a voice in my head, my own inner voice.
this is what happens to a person in somnambulism.
the best way I can describe it is, say while you are sitting at your computer now you wanted a cup of coffe. your inner voice would say 'I;ll go and make a cup of coffee', and you would automatically do it.
when I was made to believe I was in sauna this voice in my head said these girls are massage girls.
the strange part is I remembered that small part with no memory of the rest of it.
some time later I walked into a pub in my town and a girl remarked i don't know how he has the nerve to come in here, at the same time lowering her head, putting her hand over her face and saying I'd be like this.

Sorry, I possibly should have been clearer - when I said "find me such a case" I didn't just mean "type 'news hypnosis sexual assault' into Google and copy some links". Obviously I could have done that.

I was after a case where people were being assaulted against their will or without their knowledge under hypnosis. Something that would have looked outwardly like a completely consensual sexual situation, but where a court had ruled that an assault had taken place due to the power of hypnosis. I didn't attempt to perform this search myself because I believed it would be fruitless and a waste of time.

In your first link, the story is basically "Man assaults woman. Man is also hypnotist." There's nothing to suggest she did anything out of her own control or against her will, and indeed when things got too heated she "snapped out of her trance" and legged it to the police. I don't want to be hard on her for allowing the situation to develop to the point it did (I'm assuming he didn't volunteer the information about asking her to get them out in previous weeks, meaning that she was returning to each session knowing what he was up to) or speculate too much, but it's not difficult to see how somebody with a weight issue could be encouraged into focussing on her body as part of her therapy. It sounRAB like she felt uncomfortable but ultimately wasn't sure if it was normal, until he stuck his hand in her pants.

It is like your favourite comedian in the world doing a stand up special on tv and when you watch it they don't say one single thing which is funny but instead just does a self help speech for an hour. Then when many people who expected hilarity are disappointed and say so, they are told that they are being childish and harsh and should be happy the comedian went down the self help route.

Your right they don't hide anything from us but we are led to believe that these events happened during the course of Matts normal day and were a complete surprise tio him.

Him being a London cab with just a bottle of water does beg the question how much of a surprise the petrol station set up was.

So did I. And he truly was brilliant.

But I'm lost for worRAB as to why he's now producing shite like this.

That was beyond bad. Bring back the days when he made stuff like 'Seance'.
