Derren Brown Live: Hero at 30,000 feet, C4 10pm

I thought he did have sweaty armpits??

Anyway, in just over 12 hours we have 40 pages, almost 1000 posts, for this programme. Maybe it is us that are being manipulated??

For what it is worth I don't think he was an actor, I don't think he knew what was happening. It seemed he was being manipulated into things.

He seemed to be getting a lot of pressure put on him to volunteer to fly the plane, the question was would he 'decide' to do it before the time was up.

Well of course he has help from his crew, but my point has always been they do not participate in tricks-as pretend audience members. Its actually not impossible the way it's shown, I can think of a one method at least to do it. But thats not to say maybe his crew didnt cheat, but it didnt need it.

See...it looks so damn fake so far. But why go through all the trouble? As others have said Derren Brown is much better than this. Some of his early stuff made my jaw drop...but this isnt that good.

Also does anyone else think it isnt actually even live. Derren Brown said earlier the time was coming up to 10...well it was actually 10.02 and that was taken from my computer which has internet time enabled.

Radio Times certainly said there was a second one off on air about a month after the first. And DB implied the same at the end of the show.

Makes you think it all went wrong somewhere on the way and so it might be discretely canned.

Perhaps he was manipulating Wayne Rooney and he was supposed to have got him to sign for FC United for 20 p a week.

I have to say it looks completely set up to me atm.. hence why im assuming/hoping that theres a twist- and its actually about something else completely different..

I must say that Q&A on his blog really helped sell the show, I'm convinced it's real now as I've always liked Derren and never believed he would use stooges. Sure some of the stuff is out of reality but I can honestly say that I would do everything identically to what Matt did, nothing he did was out of the ordinary given the situation (except the street party but I'm sure the van driver planted the idea in is head during their convo).

Glad you see it, because I did enjoy that one, but I can't enjoy this at all.

I don't see much of a common thread really, except that it's Derren and he has a particular style of presenting that hasn't really changed.

As for actual intelligent content though, I would say there is no common thread at all.

Whereas we can both see how the horse thing worked and Derren didn't try to bullsh*t anyone with how he did it- how exactly did any of his recent stunts work?

Thing I learned tonight!

- If you're woken up from sleep, you're in a hypnotic state
- If someone touches a crocodile they instantly become assertive
- You don't post a wallet through a letterbox, you enter the house and watch TV...because you touched a crocodile
- A train travelling at 10mph won't stop if they see someone lying on the tracks
- As usual with DB, you can hypnotise someone by touching their forehead. It only works because he is in a "heightened state" though.

etc, etc, etc, etc...

Yes it is very usual for the brain to invent a simple excuse for something that doesn't fit our belief system.

Audiences will often state like a fact that the hypnotist they just saw used stooges as what happened on stage goes outside of what they 'believe' is possible.

:)

One answer they don't appear to have - and Derren didn't cover it either - is where the hell did that band appear from?

Were they on their way to a gig that got cancelled at the last moment and decided to set up in the street when they saw Matt getting his instant party kit out of the van?
