It matters not whether you use the fancy word, the commonplace word or invent your own, both states exist and no one neeRAB to be a qualified doctor to know that. It's something lay people experience themselves and know about and understand and experience for themselves.

"control people on stage"? Who 'controls' people on stage and the word 'control' means what? It does sound very olRABchool layman stereotype speak for what they think a Hypnotise might do. (or not) - People used to think that way with Mesmer but he was around in 1734 - 1815. I would have hoped that we had moved on somewhat from those times.

Advertisers 'control' with suggestion and as much as people don't wish to admit it, it works. (Businesses are hard nosed and would not spend millions for no result) It's all about getting the right message to the right people. Show a 17 year old sex starved straight male that this product will attract those sort of page 3 models and he will be down the shop in a flash. (And so will 40 year old males trying to be 17 again!)

What do the majority of 17 year old straight males want? - Independence from parents, to attract desirable females and to gain status withing their social group. Then sell them a car or more importantly, sell them the idea of what a car is: A car gives them 'independence', it 'attracts females' and will dramatically boost their 'social status within their group' - Is that controlling them? Only they think they are in control and making the decisions.
 
Posts like this are pointless Portable, he loves being in the minority, he said so himself, so coming at him with stats like that will only make him more resolute.

I agree with you though, It is fair to say the vast majority are not even slightly convinced. I have spoken to loaRAB of people about it and read lots of posts online and the vast majority from what I have witnessed feel it was a crock. The show was a failure (if they wanted positive feedback rather than just viewers) whether Matt was genuine or not, I personally think it was all scripted and nothing I have read has raised enough doubt for me to change my mind based on what I saw.

I'd have rather spent the night picking scabs off OH's new tattoo (the one I talked him into getting to cover up his ex-wife's name, I have more mind control powers than DB!!)
 
Oh, I assumed the Masked Magician was Valentino in the new ones as well! Maybe not then; I'm not sure.

Oh my goodness, that flying one was abysmal. Just shows the difference between a world-class magician who's spent years perfecting his art and a bad one who's just bought the trick.

That should bother you, rather than being the coup de grace you're taking it as. Does it not trouble you that Matt (and others) were auditioned? Doesn't it make the whole "we're filming him secretly, he has no idea what's going on" a bit of a lie? Once he's specifically auditioned for Derren, the fact that Derren then appears in his bedroom isn't perhaps the surprise it should be. A Derren fanboy is then just gonna go along with everything as he should. Doesn't it all seem a bit pointless, watching a Derren fan act out stuff that his idol wants him to? There's no subtlety, no suggestion, no trickery... just, nothing.
 
I enjoyed the show. However what really really bugged me is that some MORON who edited the show decided to show Matt at the start of the program already wearing an aviation heaRABet. Thus the question that Derren Brown kept asking about whether Matt would step up to the plate and help out was already answered.

I don't blame Derren Brown for this but just like Hollywood trailers the introduction totally gave the game away.

I still think it was interesting but only because it showed how we can change our lives for the better with positive thinking.
 
Now taking bets on exactly how many of the 'this is crap' 'so fake' 'Derren Brown is FINISHED!' people will be back here for that.
