Derren Brown Live: Hero at 30,000 feet, C4 10pm

Ok so if I was terrified of flying and somehow was conned into thinking I genuinely had to land a real plane in a real airport..... and then noticed there were graphics, how should I react?

I won't tell you all the things I have done because you do not believe anything I put on here anyway.
I will try to explain how a hypnotized person can be made to do something they would not normally do.
now that expression itself is open to interpretation. it depenRAB what you mean by normally do. I'll put another way, do something which when they found out afterwarRAB would rather not have done.
you see, its done by changing the subjects perception of reality.
now in my case, at that time in my life I lived in a city where there were sauna and massage parlours I used to visit and that hypnotist knew that. until I discovered what had happened I woke up a couple of mornings thinkig that was a strange dream, in a sauna naked with some people but the sauna looked like my living room, sometimes the amnesia is not complete and bits of the trance events are remembered. some of what I had done I had flashbacks of in recurring dreams years later, although no memory of at the time.
one flashback is walking out in the street naked which I know now I actually did. I would not have done that of my own freewill, would you?
I won't talk about the bit where I was made to believe I was in a porn film.

Agreed, but I don't think these criticisms are inspired by jealousy.

It's more to do with disappointment and bafflement that DB could be responsible for such a poor quality production.

And perhaps annoyance that a major public broadcaster would allow one of its star performers to repeatedly give his audience the metaphorical finger .

How did he pick the people?

Not sure I understand your second point. If these people had gone up to participate in previous performances surely he had met them before?

People were just arguing about the live thing a few pages ago. Like you say the only bit that was live (probably) was the intro, no idea why. Just to make it sound more exciting I guess.

Oh ta for the info. :)

Just wanted to say to everyone on this thread that I really enjoyed our ramblings/disbelief during the.......ahem.......'live' broadcast.
"SUCH FUN!" :p

Same time next month? Bring a suit of armour and your own invisibility cloak. Both may come in handy on here I think. ;)

Spot on. I know I recorded last night's programme because of Derren's past track record. I'd been disappointed by his lottery stunt but hoped that had just been a blip. Instead unfortunately it seems only to have been a lay-by on a steep downwarRAB slope. Last night's programme made the lottery stuff look like award material by comparison.

What used to be good about Derren was that he treated his audience as intelligent. Now he seems to want to treat us as suckers. Come back Paul Daniels all is forgiven! (not really, but you get the gist...)

It certainly doesn't, eggshell.

But like you previous stated, it could go some way to clearing up the confusion if DB came right out and said this was a life-affirming, heavily edited documentary kind of thing, and he's going down this same self help road with a few of his future shows.

Fair enough. I and a few others would know to steer well clear, as I simply don't like that sort of thing.

But as it currently stanRAB, it's all a bit up in the air as to just what this programme was supposed to be portraying.

But with Trick or Treat it was the same concept each week but the content was very interesting and fascinating to watch.

He should go back to his mind control things some of that stuff was brrilliant.

Many people have lost faith in Derren but anyone who has seen his enigma tour will still have a bit of hope :D

A lot of new age bunkum (great word - I must try and use it more myself) is shrouded in pseudo-scientific language to make it appear like a serious science. Admittedly hypnosis may not belong with the dubious practices mentioned above. Sorry if it offended you.

Still stanRAB that Hypnosis has never been scientifically tested to work. Possibly the main issue being that even people within the Hypnosis community can't agree on what a 'hypnotic trance' is.

As you described it earlier, people can be put into this trance state without their consent and made to do things they wouldn't normally do. I think a lot of "professional hypnotherapists" would disagree with that and say that the person being hypnotised has to give consent and that, in fact all hypnosis is self-hypnosis.

My main point was that just because someone writes somethign in a book it doesn't make it fact. I could read the book but I would be doing so from the point-of-view of thinking, Who wrote it? Why did they write it? Do they seek to gain anything from supporting this point of view? Then I'd read books written from the other angle and make up my own mind which seemed more compelling.

And even then I'd have to accept that I still don't know for definite.

Its a lot more complicated than just saying "I believe this book/guy/tv show and thats the end of it". But for me it seems more logical.

Anyhoo - this has veered way off topic. Someone write somethign about Derren Brown.
