Derren Brown Live: Hero at 30,000 feet, C4 10pm

Yes, if you believe that the guy really was clueless then it was a clever illusion. If not it was a clever (or not so) illusion on the audience. What I meant was at the very least it was uplifting TV if you suspended your disbelief to a certain extent.

You think he's laughing at a thread on the internet growing to 36 pages? :D Seriously? :D

No doubt he has a new following and I'm sure he's getting paid pretty well, but then that was probably also true 5 years ago when he wasn't seen as such a joke.

A couple of points on this one.

1) Perhaps back in the day people were more gullable and or the tricks were more believable.

2) Don't forget that if you go back far enough people actually believed in sea monsters, dragons, and that Paul Daniels was good entertainment. The constant drive of (most) of the Human Race up through the IQ scale is making it more and more difficult for people to suspend disbelief.

3) I think the backlash on here is more to do with rational people reacting to those who did not see it as a trick, but as a real thing, that Derren Brown really has some sort of magical powers,..rather than ridiculing the spectacle itself or Derren's delivery of it.

It would probably have been a lot more realistic if the party guy in the van was wearing a clown suit and make-up, and tore this clobber off in disgust after Matt convinced him to follow his dream of becoming a chef. Then Matt could have donned the discarded clown costume and went around chapping his neighbours' doors inviting them to a party that this 'mysterious' clown was about to stage for them in the street right outside their front doors.

And at the end of the night after the clown had repaired a few broken relationships and made a few kiRAB' dreams come true, he could wander through the smooching couples crooning that old Max Bygraves number 'may each day in your life be a good one, may the Lord always watch over you...' and then to the utter amazement of everyone whip off his nose and wig to reveal himself as Matt the loser...

And at the end they could have had lots of duff actors watching a large screen TV, maybe even with his mother and girlfriend there shedding a few tears and hugging each other as everyone fretted over whether Matt would now safely land a flight simulator -- and when he achieved this death defying feat against all odRAB, he would exit the simulator to deafening applause and with Derren telling him that this is the proudest moment of his career....

Oh wait... that last bit actually happened.

Oh dear Darren.

Where did it all go wrong?

I still love you, but you've become utter sh!te :(

And I don't believe a word. My Ex always used to say, "I don't mind a lie as long as it's an entertaining lie'. Sorry Darren, you're not even entertaining anymore:cry:

I get it. "Its difficult to explain why they can't be hoaxed satisfactorily". As opposed to "its difficult to explain, satisfactorily, why they can't be hoaxed".

I am going nuts.

Mind you, there was this suspicious guy on the train on the way in to work.......he kept repeating the same phrase over and over again.

"Tickets please, tickets please"

Soon I began to nod off.........

Yes this solves the set-up riddle doesn't it? Just how likely is it that someone's friend knows a band who can turn-up with instruments and PA and play with no notice? It doesn't matter that the script says what you heard, it was still scripted.

Your faith in Derren Brown's integrity is remarkable, if misplaced.
