Derren Brown Live: Hero at 30,000 feet, C4 10pm

I'm still watching because of this thread. Without peoples hilarious, insightful and also very stupid comments this show wouldn't be entertaining at all.

Sorry, I'm not sure of we're talking at cross-purposes here. I think we're in agreement: The System was a good piece of TV. I'm just saying that I think he also bent the rules a bit in that one, as I really do doubt it's possible to actually pull off. In that instance I think it's okay though, because ultimately it doesn't really matter that much either way. IMO the show still works on the same level it was meant to.

When the whole basis of the show relies on him saying "I've hypnotised someone to do this, and forget this, and..." I can't think anything other than ".... no, you haven't." As I say, I haven't seen Hero yet, but it sounRAB like it's along these lines. There's no entertainment for me in watching some willing volunteer doing what Derren wants him to, essentially just because it's Derren and he's going to get on TV and might get something out of it.

It's not at all that I was being duped. There was no trick! 90% of the people in this thread see that.

It was a staged event, nothing more.

Previous shows (that actually involved a mathematical or psycholigcal trick of some kind) were explained to such an extent that even if they had have been staged, they still could have worked in their own right, staged or not because the intelligence behind the illusion was revealed and the logic behind what at first glance appeared to be an illusion, was sound.

As such, even before it was revealed, many intelligent people guessed how it worked, because it was based on actual psychlogical or mathmatical principles.

Nobody would guess what was happening in any of his recent shows because they are more akin to a film with many twists, in his effort to gain a new audience of people with short attention spans, that don't even understand basic psycholigy to get into his shows.

Again with your selective stuff and elitist nonsense.

I have 45 years of Magical experience and can think of several effects that he has done which used a stooge or an instant assistant.

If you are trying to persuade us for instance that the old telephone booth stunt where somebody answers the phone and Derren instantly senRAB them to sleep is done without preparation then you are avin a larf.

But even more specific is the Seance show where one of the particpants starts channeling the dead girl. She could conceivably have been hypnotised before hand to think she was possessed. What was telling though was that they drew lots to see who would do the channeling and she got the x. Well I say she got it, what she got was a blank piece of paper like everybody else but used a nail writer to put an x on her slip. Go back and watch it if you don't believe me.

Take the stage show with the stuffed animals and that was largely random but its interesting that for the stunt at ShepherRAB Bush it was a very specific taxi driver, not chosen at random, that Derren used. But again folk like you are easily misdirected by all the other randomness into thinking it was all random.

You know less than half of what you think you know so stop spouting such authoritarian nonsense.

There's even one in the newest season (not Valentino now, to my knowledge..) where they stop the video on the replay and add in 'Look, you can even see the wire!'. That would totally never happen to a magician with any class whatsoever. The new season (with the Criss Angel swimming pool reveal and stuff) just reeked of ruining peoples fun, whereas at least the first season revealed age old tricks that most people probably knew the trick to anyway.

Deary me cartree you do get uptight.I meant the way MM explains some of the tricks is not the way they are done. I didn't say dont believe anything.
Believe Derren or not I don't care. I only take issue with cries of stooge when tehre isnt one.
