I think that may be opening Pandora's box, cartree.
I read the link from "www.learnabouthypnosis.org". SounRAB like an impartial group - no doubt a subjective assessment of the phenomena.
The gist seems to be that because in real (unhypnotised) life, humans can experience, paralysis, amnesia, catalepsy (not apparently cats with epilepsy), sleep-walking etc that this explains what hypnosis does.
But they've forgotten to put in the bit that explains how it replicates them? God, they must be kicking themselves they left that out!
I particularly liked the line "This state of deep sleep is still for us shrouded in mystery, and therefore of intense interest, but we have so far but very limited powers of understanding what it really is."
Which about sums it all up. But then they go on for ages about it after that.
Fantastic typo....
"Amnesia or forgetfulness, which as we have seen, is a phenomenon of deep hypnotic sleep, is of peculiar interest, not only because of its parallel in the waking state, but because of its parallel in the waking state....."
I had to read this about three times. He must've forgotten he'd written it. Damn Amnesia!!
