Derren Brown Live: Hero at 30,000 feet, C4 10pm

Hmm fair point but how many viewers do you think were left with the impression that Matt was a bit of a fool ?

That's not terribly motivating.

Also if changing your life involves stealing a van and holding a party for your neighbours with the proceeRAB or indeed breaking into somebodies house then I think I'd choose to stick with the rather mundane life I have.

Great! The ultimate answer ignore everything you don't want to listen to!

I rest my case about this generation. You've screamed what you want to say got noticed and are not interested in anything or anyone else.

This is a discussion board, not twitter!

Not entirely sure what you are on about with respect to me. But I am totally happy for Keelboots to go on believiing and posting as such to the end of time. But I see it as my duty as a fellow human being to respond by telling him/her that in my opinon they are being cheated !

Just watched the show in full on 4OD as up to now only seen parts of the whole and the band mysterry is solved:one of his neighbours clearly says" friend of a friend might be able to supply a band"

Yesterday this was a glaring error/set up according to some.People just don't pay attention.

I agree almost entirely. However, I didn't think it was particularly entertaining. As you describe the show, it was really little more than a motivational exercise, with Matt complicit all the way through. I believe Derren Brown does these kind of seminars, using motivational tricks, and this was just an extention of his courses "dressed up" to be entertainment. Nothing wrong with that, and perhaps Matt gained something from the experience..but it's hardly entertaining for his regular fans.

I don't think so.

People are no longer asking 'HOW did he do that', but 'WHY did he do that' ?

For those of of us who know that Derren's mentalist and hypnotic 'powers' are mostly pure misdirection, a means to diverting attention away from the mechanics of the illusion, the fun in watching him was always centred on figuring out how he did it.

Now that he's presenting himself as a an actual mentalist and in a way that involves no obvious stagecraft - ar at least none that couldn't be faked by a film crew and a bunch of hired stooges - that intrigue has been replaced by bewidlerment of a different sort (as in 'how did this rubbish make it past the editing suite?').

Bemusement rather than amusement.

Surely nobody could possibly think the flight sim bit was live? It was clearly pre-recorded and had loaRAB of editing. Crucially, the programme regularly cut back to a live
