Hello everyone, and thanx for opening..time to read.

OK, so i really want a new phone.
My prepaid boost mobile phone really sucks, and i'm ready to sign up
with a carrier.

Dilema?? Obviously which phone should I get.

You see, i am very picky. I look at the design of the phone first and then look at the services it offers and such, and then I look at the carrier (yes, very stupid, but i choose look over everything).

Ok, besides that, there is no phone that really catches my eye in the US market right now.

I live in the US (Mass. to be exact), but i would really love a Vodafone or a DoCoMo phone. Know i know that there are limitations to that (a.k.a. not being able to switch carriers and such...trust me, i've done my research), but recently, my friend came back from Germany (i think, i don't quite recall), and he was using a phone from there.

Now i don't know much about CDMA, or GSM and such, but i mean..he said that he was able to switch from carriers and such. Was he bluffing???

I don't know, but he better watch his balls if he was.

So i was wondering, would it be possible to bring a Vodafone and us it in the US, with an US carrier of course???

If not, i'll just have to camp out for the LGVX700 from Verizon, which is what i can compare as close as what the US has for a Japanese/Vodafone looking piece of cell phone.

Please let me know. Thanx for listening.

You should pick your carrier first, before worrying about which phone to get. You didn't say where in MA you lived, but my experience shows all of the big 4 work well in most areas (Verizon, Sprint, Cingular and T-Mobile). However, you should check the coverages and talk to friends and coworkers and look at where you will use the device - where you live, work, travel etc. You can have the best looking phone around, but if you have no service, what good is it? Just an expensive paperweight IMHO.

CDMA phones will only work on CDMA networks, however, neither Sprint or Verizon allow non carrier branded phones on their networks - no Verizon on Sprint, etc. GSM carriers don't seem to care as long as the phone is unlocked, so you can use an unlocked Cingular phone on T-Mobile's network and vice versa.

As for non US phones, keep in mind that not all phones work on any network. Japanese phones will most likely NOT work on the US networks since they use WCDMA and are not compatible.

Most unlocked non-US branded GSM phones should work on our GSM networks. Keep in mind however, that you will most likely have no technical support whatsoever from US carriers. So if you have problems configuing or connecting, don't expect any help.
