Debate issue on "Designer Babies"?

For English class I am arguing the positive side of human genetic engineering (don't lecture me the topic and side was chosen by my teacher). While researching I found an argument that I can't seem to shake off. If we decide to allow human genetic enhancement then what about test subjects, or what if something goes wrong and a test subject is deformed in someway by the experiment. How can we justify human test subjects? If my opponent brings this argument up I'm not sure how I can answer.

If you have any other ideas, opinions, or interesting articles on the subject of human genetic engineering feel free to post them.
Thank you.
Camp I see what your saying, but I feel the need to mention that the "test subjects" would be newborn children with their whole life ahead of them. My only issue is that it will be difficult in the debat to be cold and factual about children. But really thanks if it comes down to it I think your point will prove useful.

okay, so for this subject, i disagree that we should have "designer babies." but being an unbiased person, i believe that it still does have positive things to it. for example, you can change your child to not have downs syndrome and you could also change the fact that you may have a bad gene, like heart attacks, you could change that so your child doesn't have that, thus letting your child live longer. but for bad things, it's like the Sims, you shouldn't have the power to change height, eye color, hair color... in your child. it's not right, too much like playing God.
