Death Note US Remake being written

It would be great if there were never movies, books, TV Shows, or plays made in the first place. That would mean that Hollywood couldn't remake them, and would actually have to think up original ideas for once.

That's why I suspect it's fake, or at least not the one they're currently going with. I doubt very much they'd write this and think "Yep, this is how to go" without thinking of the many Death Note fans they'll no doubt piss off - if they haven't already noticed how poorly written it is. This is so poorly written, in fact, that it doesn't seem like a professional wrote it.

I refuse to see this as anything more than a hoax, or at least an early, unlikely-to-be-how-they'll-actually-go version. Because if it isn't....oh, will I be livid. And if they cast a big name heartthrob, it'll be just as I warned everyone.

Then again, anyone remeraber the leaked script for POTC3? Yes it was way more professionally written, but the writers said it had since been changed. And look how that turned out. (Read: everyonknowsprettymucheverythingaboutitalmostayearinadvance)

I'm not sure whether I should be glad Luke is nigh nothing like Light or angry. What makes Light so great is that he does it all out of boredom, not revenge.

I disagree, i don't think this script is fake, it is poorly written as a whole, but it has very detailed research info about the inner workings of new york, and new jersey, tons of research went into it

i don't mind the death note turning luke evil, remeraber Ryuk said the only two prices for using the death note is "the emotion the user experiences", and no heaven or hell"

his mother dead bothers me, luke should have a sense of justice like mikami

from a business stand point i would not put Ryuk in movie 1

Uhhh...what? Of course they can.

It doesn't take any effort at all. I saw my first subtitled film when I was a young child. It's more like it's ingrained in our culture that American films are better than foreign films. If people start watching subtitled films when they're young, when they're older they won't even notice them.

Oh, well that makes things easier since last names can be pretty much anything.

Matsuda = Matson
Ide = Hide
Aizawa = Zowie
Mogi = Mogi(same spelling, but pronounced differently)
Ukite = Who cares?

I could buy that - in fact, it'd be pretty great. But the only problem I can imagine is the fact a trilogy will not be assured. Light vs. L is pretty much the core of Death Note, but if they save him for the second movie it might not ever see the light of day.

This isn't Batman - there's no assured success rate. They could save the Joker for The Dark Knight because they KNEW there'd be a sequel. Death Note doesn't have that luxury, sad to say.

The post-credits thing sounRAB pretty awesome, though, so bonus points for that.

Prediction, Light will be looser teenager, he gets the death note from Ryuk (who's turned into the devil for this movie) and he uses it to kill his high school tormentors in horrible ways, probably.

Then you are a madman, Ryuk is integral to the storyline. And just because it's insightful as to New York and New Jersey, doesn't mean it's real - if it is, as I suspect, fake, the guy who wrote it probably just did some research to make it a bit more believable, since it's unconvincing as is.

And I'm not on the IMDB boarRAB (driven off by how inaccurate it is), but I'll quote a meraber:

I'm not actually in that position, but I'll take that standpoint.

And before you present the plausible "why should you believe them over me," true there's no reason I should believe them over you. But there's no good reason for me to see this as anything more than a fake to an early, unlikely-to-be-the-way-they'll-actually-go draft, either.

By saying that, you've just proven my point.

Besides, be careful what you wish for. Clearly I'm the only one on this board who respects Death Note enough to see that a bastardization featuring pretty boy Efron or some celebrity like that parading around writing down criminals' names in a notebook and believing what he's doing to be justice is a true abomination.

And I would HOPE that the poor quality of the Japanese would be enough to convince y'all that this is not a story which lenRAB itself well to live action.

Y'know...when someone quotes someone else on a message board, they usually reply to the text they quoted. Not ask an unrelated question that's already been answered.

Don't tell that to the millions of people who went to the theatres and saw Chicago. Or Hairspray. Or any Disney movie in the 1990s.

So Americans don't bother with foreign movies because they think theirs are the biggest and the best?

Thank you for reiterating exactly what I've been saying this whole time.

In any case, this topic is beyond the scope of this thread, which is to discuss this one particular movie. We really should just drop it, especially since nobody's convincing anyone of anything.

So what's the problem exactly? The chip-eating scene was already overplayed. ...Does this mean it'll be even more overplayed? That's scary.

i don't think so, why put so much time into something that can be slapped down so quickly, the first time this script leaked was on

a french death note site in may 09

death-note.fr

look at the script, it is tailored made to appeal to a wider audience, a fan would not write this, even someone wanting to trick fans would not write this,

the style is very poor, but the substance smells like hollywood as usual , this script is death note trying to appeal to a conservative audience

if this script was written by a trickster wanting attention, where is this person? there is no one claiming to be a angry wb employee.

no one is claiming the leak, the script is just out there, this makes me think it's real

Hmmm...yeah, reading a little bit, I'm not feeling it. I liked the boredom angle more. Revenge makes it sound like he's sympathetic.

Which would be absolutely horrible, the only way in hell I'm forgiving this is if they bring back Brian Drummond, who flipping IS Ryuk to voice him, and even that won't save it if Zac Efron is Light.

...Is there anyone you can think of that won't sully the heart of Death Note? Keep in mind bishi's are pretty rare in the US.

The thing is, Death Note is perhaps the most realistic anime around that's popular. You don't even need that many effects, unless CGI Ryuk, etc. You pretty much just need to know how to write a blockbuster that is true to everyone.

Wow...that was god-awful.

Seriously, NO RYUK?

And limiting Kira's killings to just New York? LAME!

I really hope the rewrites make this suck less.

Well are you about to go and claim a fake you put out? In any event, especially if it'd cost me my job, I'd be a bit smarter than to do that. That's not to say whoever did this, if my suspicions are true, isn't smart; just that I doubt they'd claim it.

And even if I were responsible for a fake, I wouldn't claim it. No one's going to claim it because then everyone will know it's a fake, they'll blatantly be proved frauRAB - seems logical, y'know? Even in shady businesses like that I suspect is at work here, it's still logical that they wouldn't claim it.

As to why put all that time into it: isn't it obvious? So the already-questionable product isn't made any more shady than it already is. Fake scripts pop up online a lot, and from what I've heard, they're usually more professionally writen than this. That's why I suspect it's fake.

And even if it isn't, this can't be the way they'll actually go. Two official announcements came out this year, both from reliable sources, stating that it'll be based on the original manga. And even so, a script can undergo a nuraber of drafts in a year or so; the thing's not even supposed to come out until 2011, never mind that there hasnt't been any casting news or news about when filming's going to start. If it's been being written since 2008, they've surely edited it a nuraber of times. It's highly unlikely this would be what theyll go with; it'd have to undergo at least some revisions, and these will probably amount to something.
