Death Note creators (Ohba & Obata) confirmed to launch new manga titled: Bakuman

It's been a while since this thread has been bumped up.

In chapter 52, in response to the threat of cancellation, Mashiro and Takagi attempt to follow the requests of their fans to boost their popularity, only to be shot down by their editor, who tells them to write what they want instead of following the fans' whims. Even after bringing back a popular character and introducing intriguing new ones, however, the popularity of their series doesn't improve, and it's in great danger of being canceled.

I could see it going either way, with them either just barely escaping cancellation, or having to start over again with a new series.
 
And with chapter 53, we find that Detective Trap has been canceled, and the two are once again out of the job, with their dream of getting an anime by the time they graduate high school down the drain.

Looking back, though, I suppose this was really the only way for the story to progress. There was really no way their first full series would actually last in a story like this.
 
I totally thought it would be the new detective series that would be canceled, but i guess that Hiatus really hurt them. Well, hopefully their next manga will be a killer.

Cant say i care about Aoki & Nakai getting canceled, i don't particularly like that duo.
 
Hmmm, to be honest, I didn't see this coming. In the beginning of the series and some later chapters, I pretty think it will smooth trip for those characters. But I see the creator trying to add something new, something most manga series never tries to step in. Failure.

Now, I got a new veiw at this series. It will be fun and new to how how these characters over come their lost.
 
I agree with this. Adding in failure is something that most authors don't seem to do too much in shounen manga (or at least not on this level, in which the characters suffer a major set-back and have to start back from scratch).

Personally, I think that this was a very wise-decision, on the author's part. For one thing, it gives them a perfect excuse to make the story of this manga run even longer, since now they once again have to come up with ideas for a new series. However, it also gives the 2 main characters an oppurtunity to experience something that's a common part of the business of being a mangaka, and learn from their previous mistakes. I think that this both succeeRAB at giving the series a more realistic feel, and also keeping the readers interested, since now everyone will be wondering what kind of new series the 2 of them will come up with to make their big comeback as they try to become big-time mangaka with a series running in Shounen Jump, as they also try to beat their rivals in having their series become the most popular one in WSJ.
 
Personally, adding a big level of failure into a series is kind of good. It gives the readers want their fav characters over come this.

In most manga series, they add a litle bit of failure (maybe one or two) than add a lot of wins.

Personally, by seeing the character win more than lose; doesn't give me the reason why I should worry about that character. Whats the point? I know they will win, so what.

But seeing a character lose more than win; makes me hope and pray that character will win someday. It gives me the reason why I should worry and care.

And yeah, most shounen manga series stories; the character always win. Maybe once they hit a bump, but thats all.
 
You pretty much summed up my thoughts perfectly.

Anyways, now that they have to start a brand new series, they have so many possibilities to choose from. Personally, I think that they should try and stick with something that's still more along the mystery or intellecutal lines, rather than trying to go the mainstream route with a generic battle manga. Knowing them, they probably will come up with something that's much more unique than the average WSJ series.



History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi comes to mind when I think about this. Kenichi can somehow beat people his age who have been training their whole lives, wherea he has only been training for a year. Also, he only ever loses once or twice out of every like....10 to a dozen fights that he gets into, and he is usually able to come back and defeat the opponent who he lost to after training for just a short time, later on in a re-match. Of course, I still kind of enjoy that manga for some odd reason.

My apologies for completely going off-topic there, but I just couldn't help but mention that.
 
Bump for great news, Bakuman is getting an Anime for next fall!!!!!!

Hope it doesn't end prematurely, Bakuman isn't really the kind of series you can do filler for, well i guess that's why their waiting till next year. Think Bakuman will last longer than Death Note?
 
I truly hope so. Bakuman has the potential to continue for as long as the creators will allow it. I've been thoroughly enjoying the manga since the beginning and hope that the anime can capture the energy of the manga.
 
I'm definitely excited for this. While I don't like it nearly as much as Death Note (just personal preference on my part, though, mainly because I find DN to have much more unique and interesting characters), Bakuman is still a highly addicting and very enjoyable shounen manga, and one of the few currently-running manga series that I still hold any sort of interest for. While the general concept is very typical among shounen (striving to become the best at something), Bakuman presents this kind of story in a very unique way. And, I also like how it also gives the readers a lot of interesting insight into the difficult life of actually writing and drawing the manga that many of us enjoy so much (how much of it is actually true in the real world I am not sure of, but its still interesting to see the way that the manga depicts this sort of career, IMO ).
 
I figured I'd bump this.
Why?
Well, I got bored and I waited long enough.
I knew the next Orabroada and Obata series would be good, but geez.
Orabroada shows how great of a writer he/she is, its a level of reality to it all.
Added Obata is by far one of my favorite manga artists.
I've only read the first 5 chapters or so, but oh am I hooked.

I'm guessing just gets better and better?
