DCI Banks Monday 27 September at 9pm

It was very clunky. Clunky acting and clunky script. I might try one of the books just to see if that is the way they are or if it was down to the adaptation.

Apart from the lousy choice of lead actor. And the number of times he went into deep thought, then came out with a really stupid, unfounded prediction.....which turned out to be correct.

Actually, I believe it's so they don't leave any hairs, which could give DNA, at the scene of the crime.

I realised tonight how bad an actor ST really is. He couldn;t stand, walk or talk properly.

In my opinion.

Read about this and wasn't sure about the casting of Tompkinson. I think Wild at Heart has put me off him. I love animals but that was utter shite. What made him famous btw?

It is going to be interesting watching him in this role, so am willing to put the bad parts behind him.

Well, I enjoyed it.

Had its flaws: probably should have been a 3 or 4 parter rather than two, and I am not a fan of Tompkinson (although I do think hes getting far too much stick here, probably miscast, but I thought he did a pretty decent job). And why cant all policewomen look like Ms Lowe?....lol

But overall, as someone who hasnt read the novels, I thought it was good and shows that ITV can still make tv worth watching.

It has actually made me want to go and read the novels. Engaged me more than enough to want to see a series and explore the novels. Anything that does that to a viewer cant be bad.

i'm very undecided about this. I've been hoping for a long time they'd adapt the Banks books, but to me Stephen Tompkinson isn't Banks. not just physically but he's angry and tortured all the time and the Banks of the novels is not at all, he's very calm and can detach himself from the job.

Also they have made Annie quite a unlikeable character too, which is a shame.

I can see why they have done Aftermath as the pilot as its such a strong story, however it did worry me when I saw it was only 2 hours with ad breaks as the story is very involved especially with a certain character's past and I can't see how they will fit that all in, it felt very rushed to me watching last night.

I was a bit annoyed they showed Maggie (the Irish lady) having an affair with Marcus Payne. This doesn't happen in the book and it didn't add anything to the story on screen.

I'm curious if they do the earlier books are they just going to wipe Sandra Banks out and just have her as the ex wife, especially in Gallows View where she is integral to the story.

I think so too but I still think you need to start with Caedmon's Song first as it (in storyline) is set about the same time or just before Gallows View and it does link into Aftermath and Friend of the Devil

This was ok and an average drama. There was not much to divide or rile people so I'm not surprised it had a healthy audience. Stephen Tonkinson may not have been right for Banks, but he is an ITV actor, someone who ITV audiences identify with and thus ITV can rely on him to deliver. As he did. :)
