Dark Knight: Ledgers role

Do you think the movie makers cynically exploited Ledgers death and included vast tracts of his role which would otherwise have ended on the cutting room floor. Does this explain why the movie is inordinately long and appears confusing with a complicated and disjointed story line. Besides what was so special about Ledgers acting that a drama student could not replicate.

NO. The Joker was the main villain and all the action and thematic elements revolved around him. The first trailer was mainly about the Joker and included footage from most of the scenes. He was also one of the main marketing elements...

...and all this was BEFORE Ledger died.

As for the performance, dead or alive, its a cracker. Totally immersed in the role, down to every tiny mannerism. Genuinely chilling character acting, funny in parts. Unrecognisable as Heath Ledger.

He was getting heavy praise for his performance from his peers before he died.

Basically, you are either:

1. Trying to be controversial

2. Placing too much emphasis on an actors death (the movie and its popularity would have been the same)

Talk about twisting reality to fit your own preconceptions.
Considering that the film is two and half hours long, Ledger/the Joker is probably only in it for less than half that time.
The hype comes from the media not the filmmakers who have ignored the fact that it's not his last film to make an inaccurate tragic story.
It's not an Oscar worthy performance - the devlish dialogue is what makes the Joker a great character in it - but it a is very good one IMO. The film is not perfect (it's an 8/10 from me) but as the film says, nothing and no-one is perfect.

I think it's definitely an oscar worthy performance. He was rather disturbing.

I also don't know why some are moaning about the time length of the film, it went by fast for me.

I got the impression that they had already decided to focus the film much more around the joker before HL's death - when they saw how strong his performance once. I'm sure I remember this being said quite early in the year.

As to the idea that a drama student could do this, what rubbish:mad: i couldn't connect HL with the joker on screen, he was such a complete creation - not many actors could do that so well

Im not going to begin to discuss what was wrong with that statement. I'm pretty sure that plenty of people will do that, BUT WHY THE **** DO WE NEED ANOTHER DARK KNIGHT THREAD !?!?!?!

It was ALWAYS gonna focus on The Joker a great deal. How could it NOT have done? Anyway, in the first 30 minutes of the film he's in like one scene and also the bank job where he doesn't speak.

I watched it for a 2nd time yesterday, and was actually surprised to notice how little lines & screentime he has. In my opinion the script would have included more scenes with him, had they known how great he was going to be. He steals every scene he is in.

This thread is even worse than the so called cynical movie makers you are insulting.
