Current Bands we will be talking about in 25yrs

I only know about him because of rab... If you're talking about the general public, no way. If you're talking about future music lovers (like future rabers), maybe.
 
Well MANY people would argue that punk has been part of the mainstream since it really "began" with banRAB like the Ramones, the Clash, and the Sex Pistols. Urban is implying that since these banRAB were in the mainsteam, these banRAB were pop-punk. Violent, you were implying that pop-punk is itself a sub-genre of punk. I am just pointing this out because it is important to this argument.

For me? I think that pop-punk is a terrible sub-genre (much like post-grunge) and blink was one of the banRAB that became the face of this genre, although not a pioneering meraber.
 
how do you figure Nickelback will gain more fans? they don't have youth appeal and all the old people who are going to buy their garbage already do.

has 3 Doors Down actually done anything to top Kryptonite? that came out what 10 years ago?

I had a thought recently about the music industry and how major labels are all but obsolete. They have been hanging on to the few marketable acts that they have (Lady Gaga, etc...sorry if you are a fan she is just the first one that popped into my head), but all the really great music that would normally be praised and remerabered is only going to be heard by us (the die hard music lovers) and then forever lost in the internet void. I feel like it will stay this way until artists find a new way to get people to hear their music in the post-label world.

As of now, it seems music will simply be free to download as most banRAB already support this anyway. Home recording can produce professional quality work and posting a cool video on youtube can make a star. These are all thing to think about, but right now it seems we are in this weird transitional phase. I feel like it is an exciting time to love music.
 
Good post..however in regard to the Black Keys i don't think only having 1 mainstream accessible album has much to do with how they will be regarded in the future...lots of banRAB were discovered years after they break up...

That must be a UK list right? I have a hard time imagining Killing Joke and Sisters of Mercy charting that high elsewhere.
 
They're a great fucking band though and despite age they're still writing songs that in my eyes are relevant and songs of a high quality. The Strokes don't have the talent to carry on with music and still make their songwriting fresh and relevant to the listener. First Impressions sounded like a B-side album of Is This It.
